*LIVING WORD DEVOTIONAL* _By Pastor Mensa Otabil_ Saturday 1st March 2025 *A COMMAND TO BE FRUITFUL* *Scripture Reading:* Genesis 1 > _Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” *Genesis 1:28*_ To be fruitful simply means to grow, blossom and be productive. It means to produce results that are beneficial and profitable. God instructed Adam to be a productive person. Though Adam did not have any education, God asked him to flourish where the Lord placed him. Adam had to produce the things he needed out of the materials that God had created for him. God gave him trees but did not build furniture for him. He gave Adam plants but did not cook his food for Him. The Lord embedded knowledge in creation but did not write a science book for Adam. Being fruitful requires that we use the internal resources of our spirit and mind that God gave us to make things with the external resources God has created. In addition, to live fruitful lives, we must understand the world that our Creator has placed us in. God’s charge for Adam to be fruitful extends to each one of us. The Lord has given us an imperative to make our lives and our world productive. We are not to be fruitful occasionally. God wants us to produce fruit in all areas of our lives and at all times. The word “be” is a verb - it is an active word. It calls things to action. God’s instruction for us ‘to be’ has three implications: - *You have what it takes.* You cannot be what you can’t be. When God said to be fruitful, He had already planted within us the potential for development and productivity. - *You must show it.* Our fruitfulness must be evident. When God says, “be”, whatever He has called, appears. In Genesis, He said, “Let there be,” and there was. The charge for us to be fruitful is God’s assignment for us to manifest the potential He has planted in us. Our potential must not be hidden. - *It is a command to obey.* ‘Be fruitful’ is an order from God to us. It is not a suggestion. He said, “Be fruitful”. He didn’t say try or attempt to be fruitful; He specifically directed us to be productive, and we must obey. *Prayer:* _Heavenly Father, I accept your command for me to be fruitful. *LIVING WORD DEVOTIONAL* _By Pastor Mensa Otabil_ Friday 28th February 2025 *CREATED IN GOD’S IMAGE* *Scripture Reading:* Genesis 1 > _So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. *Genesis 1:27*_ Before He created the first Man, the Lord God announced His intentions. God did not want us to guess why He had made us. The Lord clearly stated these objectives ahead of our creation. - God wanted to bring a being He called Man into existence - He wanted Man to be a reflection of Himself - He wanted Man to have dominion over the earth and other creations God originated the idea to create each one of us. He said, “Let Us make Man.” Man did not create himself, and therefore man cannot determine his own purpose. To know the reason for our existence, every human being must read what our Creator said before He made us. God created us to resemble Him. An image is a reflection of something; it is not the original. When you look at yourself in the mirror, you see your image, not yourself. If you lift your hand, the image of your hand will also be raised. Though the image in the mirror reflects what you do, it is not you. Similarly, being able to reflect on God’s actions does not make us God. In the first verse of Genesis, the Bible introduces God to us as the one who ‘created the heavens and the earth’. God is a Creator - He makes things or brings things into being. God creates things in two main ways. First, He creates by making things out of nothing. Secondly, He creates by making new things out of already existing materials. If He created us to be like Him, then He has given us the ability to also make things – to be fruitful. We cannot make things out of nothing like God, but we can make new things out of the items that God has already created. To be fruitful, we use the ideas God gives us to make things out of the materials God has created. God wants us to imitate the way He brings things into being. He has given us the ability to make things. *Prayer:* _Heavenly Father, you made me to be like you. *LIVING WORD DEVOTIONAL* _By Pastor Mensa Otabil_ Thursday 27th February 2025 *DOMINATE* *Scripture Reading:* Genesis 1 > _Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” *Genesis 1:26*_ The word ‘dominion’ carries the idea of contending with something wild to bring it under your control. God created us, therefore, with the power to bring everything that opposes us under control. He did not create us to have dominion over one another but over every force of nature that seeks to bring us down. An important aspect of living a fruitful life is our ability to have dominion. God gave us both the authority and the ability to overcome. We can exercise this authority in both the natural and spiritual realms. Those who are outside of Christ can have dominion in the material or natural world. However, when we make Christ our Saviour and Lord, the Holy Spirit activates the ability to have spiritual power within us. To have dominion, we must learn to look within us for strength. We have to transcend what is seen by focusing on what is unseen, from the tangible to the intangible. Limiting ourselves only to our natural, physical and material abilities only imprisons us in a sphere of impossibility. Digging deep into what God has placed within us elevates us into the realm of possibility. Life has a way of throwing outrageous obstacles our way. Some are born with profound physical challenges. Others are raised by abusive parents and under deplorable conditions. When you look at such people, you might be tempted to think that the only option is to fail. However, we have seen uncountable numbers of such people who discovered an inner strength to rule over their circumstances. That is how the gift of dominion that God planted in each of us works. Each of us has within us the ability to overrule the adversities of our lives. God created us to thrive in life and overcome difficulties. No matter where we find ourselves, we can and should be fruitful. Next time you watch the Paralympics or any competition involving people who are striving against great odds, pause and thank God for the spirit of dominion He has invested in each of us. *Prayer:* _Heavenly Father, you have given me dominion in life. *LIVING WORD DEVOTIONAL* _By Pastor Mensa Otabil_ Tuesday 25th February 2025 *THE PRINCIPLE OF THE SEED* *Scripture Reading:* Genesis 1 > _And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. *Genesis 1:12*_ God created the first fruit trees for us. Within each fruit that hung on a fruit tree, the Lord placed seeds. He did that to signal that He would not continue creating trees for us after He had created the first ones. The power to continue producing new fruit trees to produce more fruits lay within the seeds in the fruit. The significant thing to note about the seed is that it is within. The first trees that God created, sprouted from within the earth. The seeds to produce the next set of fruits lay within the fruits. In both instances, God placed the power of fruitfulness within. God has so designed life on earth in such a way that what we need to do, the things He wants us to do, are not far from us. In this case, what we need is within us. So what is the seed? In agricultural terms, a seed is a unit of reproduction, capable of reproducing another plant. However, we also use the word seed as a metaphor for agriculture. We use it to describe the potential that lies within each of us. This potential within us is what we activate to make our lives productive. In that sense, we can say that God has placed a seed within each one of us that, when discovered and used, will make our lives flourish. The source of our fruitfulness lies with us. The seed stands for the source – it is the place from which you begin. Everything on earth has a beginning. Trees start as seeds; animals have their beginning as a fertilized egg. Products and inventions have their origins in an idea. Each of these is a seed. The seed stands for our undeveloped capacity. A seed is what you are capable of becoming but are not now. It is, ‘what will be which is not now’. There is something God wants you to be that you are yet to become. That is your undeveloped capacity. Whether you are to be a great doctor, engineer, programmer or pastor, God has given you the aptitude for it. He has already placed the seed for what you will be inside you – in your spirit, your thoughts, temperament and talents. Seeds are usually small and unimpressive until their potential is fully manifested. That is why they are very easy to ignore and despise. Just as the Lord brought forth plants from within the earth, He can bring forth great things from within you. *Prayer:* _Heavenly Father, I know you have placed the seed for my fruitfulness inside me.
