No, the acclaimed artist and founder of jewellery house, Bil Arabi, hasn’t moved back to Beirut. She’s just carved herself a pocket of Levantine charm in Dubai’s chic Port de La Mer district. “The big non-negotiable I had was that I wanted to be by the sea,” says Kanso, “because it brings back happy memories of being surrounded by family.” She enlisted fellow Lebanese creative, the AD100 designer Thomas Trad, to fashion a contemporary take on the traditional Beiruti villas she grew up in.
