Two young women from Manipur, Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma (22) and Lamnunthem Singson (21) were among the 241 killed in Thursday’s Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. Both worked as flight attendants for the Tata-owned airline. Nganthoi, from Thoubal, joined Air India in April 2023 through campus recruitment at DM College, Imphal. Her family is in shock, unable to speak. Her sister recalled, “She texted me before take-off that she was flying to London. That was our last message.” Lamnunthem, from Kangpokpi, was the only daughter in a family displaced by the 2023 ethnic violence. She had just joined the airline this year. Her mother clings to her final words: “I’m travelling to Ahmedabad to report for duty.” The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed shortly after take-off, killing 241 people. Only one passenger survived. Communities in Thoubal and Kangpokpi are in mourning. The Thadou Students’ Association expressed deep condolences and support for both families.
