_*Young Kuki Slams DU for βCensorshipβ After Seilen Haokip Dropped from Panel*_ _Outrage at Delhi University β Kuki-Zo scholar Dr. Seilen Haokip was barred from speaking at DU Literature Festival, allegedly under pressure from Meitei groups. Activists demand answers. #JusticeForKukiZo *BY PC Bureau* The Delhi University Literature Festival (DULF) has come under fire after organizers abruptly removed Dr. Seilen Haokip, a Kuki-Zo scholar, from a scheduled panel discussion. The last-minute decision has sparked allegations of censorship, institutional bias, and intimidation by Meitei extremist groups, drawing sharp criticism from students, academics, and activists. Dr. Haokip, who was invited to speak on a panel titled βThe Great Game East: The Northeast Cauldronβ, was set to discuss the Northeastβs strategic and political landscape within India. However, upon arriving at the venue, he was informed that he had been barred from speaking. βThis was a deliberate and calculated attempt to silence Kuki-Zo voices,β said Young Kuki, a student-led advocacy group. βDr. Haokip was officially invited. Over 60 Kuki-Zo students turned up to listen to their representative, only to be humiliated and denied their right to hear him speak.β βThis was a deliberate and calculated attempt to silence Kuki-Zo voices,β said Young Kuki, a student-led advocacy group. βDr. Haokip was officially invited. When they confronted the festival organizers, they were met with dismissive responses. βSiddharth, one of the festival organizers, told us, βI am not answerable to you,ββ said Lalminthang Vaiphei, a student present at the event. βHe refused to explain why Dr. Haokip was removed. When we pressed further, he claimed that Dr. Haokip had voluntarily withdrawnβbut that was an outright lie.β To challenge the claim, students called Dr. Haokip on the spot. The scholar, speaking over speakerphone, categorically denied withdrawing and confirmed that he had been barred from speaking. βI was told that my presence was creating discomfort for certain groups,β Dr. Haokip later told reporters. βBut this isnβt about discomfort. Why is Delhi University listening to a group that openly aligns itself with insurgents instead of allowing a peaceful academic discussion?β For the Kuki-Zo community, the incident is not an isolated event but part of a wider history of marginalization. βFor over 20 months, we have endured ethnic cleansing, mass killings, and state-sponsored violence in Manipur,β said Neingam Haokip, a Kuki-Zo student at DU. βOur villages have been burned, our people displaced, and now our voices are being erasedβeven in academic spaces that claim to champion free speech.β EWS POLITICS BUSINESS APPOINTMENTS/TRANSFERS AUTOMOBILE ENTERTAINMENT SPORTS EVENT WORLD Home National Young Kuki Slams DU for βCensorshipβ After Seilen Haokip Dropped from Panel Outrage at Delhi University β Kuki-Zo scholar Dr. Seilen Haokip was barred from speaking at DU Literature Festival, allegedly under pressure from Meitei groups. What kind of joke is this?β The group accused Delhi University of βbending overβ for Meitei groups instead of upholding its commitment to free speech. βThis wasnβt about avoiding controversy. It was about choosing sides. And DU has chosen to side with those who spew hate, spread lies, and encourage ethnic division,β the statement added. The removal of Dr. Haokip has sparked a broader debate about the treatment of Kuki-Zo voices in academic and literary spaces. βThis sets a dangerous precedent,β said Dr. Mary Gangte, a historian specializing in Northeast India. βIf academic institutions start yielding to pressure from extremist groups, it will only deepen the exclusion of already marginalized communities.β Others questioned the silence of Delhi Universityβs faculty and intellectuals. βWhere are the so-called champions of free speech?β asked Rangsei Kipgen, a research scholar at JNU. βWould they have remained silent if this had happened to someone from a more privileged background?β The incident has led to mounting calls for Delhi University to publicly explain its decision and ensure that such censorship does not happen again. βThis act of discrimination will not be forgotten,β Young Kuki warned. βKuki-Zo voices will not be silenced. No amount of censorship, institutional bias, or Meitei propaganda will erase the truth.β As of now, Delhi University and the festival organizers have not responded to the allegations _*#ZalengamTimes*_

_*KSO Sadar Hills Condemns SDSAβs Unruly Actions, Calls for Responsible Student Leadership*_ _The incident, which has sparked unnecessary controversy, is being misrepresented by SDSA leaders to stoke tensions._ *By Kaybie Chongloi* *On February 25, 2025* The Kuki Studentsβ Organisation (KSO) β Sadar Hills has strongly denounced the disruptive and misleading actions of the Senapati District Studentsβ Association (SDSA), which allegedly obstructed and frisked Pu Aaron Kipgen, spokesperson of the United Peopleβs Front (UPF), during his routine travel for a scheduled meeting with the Director General of Assam Rifles. The incident, which has sparked unnecessary controversy, is being misrepresented by SDSA leaders to stoke tensions. The KSO has clarified that the meeting in question was a routine engagement between the Government of India and the Suspension of Operations (SoO) groups, as part of ongoing peace negotiations. Contrary to false claims, there was no βescortβ of militants, as confirmed by Assam Rifles and UPF officials. KSO Sadar Hills has questioned the SDSAβs motives in interfering in a political dialogue that does not concern student welfare. The statement highlights the double standards in such actions, pointing out that similar engagements involving NSCN-IM leaders, such as Muivah and Shimray, were never met with such hostilityβeven when they moved under heavy security with arms. https://www.thehillsjournal.com/kso-sadar-hills-condemns-sdsas-unruly-actions-calls-for-responsible-student-leadership
