THE SPIRIT OF UNITY 1. Four days ago (1-6-2025), the Gospel reading was taken from John 17:20-26. You may call this part 1. 2. Today (5-6-2025), the Gospel reading is once more taken from John 17:20-26. You may call this part 2. 3. You may ask, why should we take the same reading within 5 days? Why are we not taking a different reading? What at all is in John 17 that it should be repeated? Is this a mistake? 4. The Church has a reason. She knows why there should be a repetition of reading. The choice of this text is to communicate a message to us. It is to tell us something. It is to open our eyes to something. 5. Traditionally, the entire Gospel, according to John chapter 17, is known as the Priestly prayer of Jesus. The reason for this is that Jesus is at prayer. This prayer of Jesus can be put into three sections: a. John 17:1-11a: Jesus prays for Himself. b. In John 17:11-19a: Jesus prays for His current disciples. c. 17:20-26: Jesus prays for His future disciples (you and I). 6. In today's Gospel reading (John 17:20-26), Jesus is at prayer. The Lord is praying. Jesus is saying something. I ask: When was your last prayer? How often do you pray? What is preventing you from praying? Interestingly, we have started this year's Pentecost Novena. We have embarked on a moment of prayer. Please join this prayer session. Tell the Lord something. Go on your knees and pray. 7. It is observed that in this prayer of Jesus, the word "one" appears not less than four times in the text: • They may all be ONE. • That they may be ONE. • Even as we are ONE. • That they may become perfectly ONE. 8. Clearly, the frequent usage of "one" is a call to unity, togetherness, or oneness. It is the Lord's intention that humanity should be one as there's no reference to disunity, division, or disintegration. 9. I ask: Is there unity in the world? Unity in your family? Unity in your Church? Unity in your group, society, etc? Unity in Ghana (you may insert the name of your country? Why can't we be united? What is the problem with unity? The situation is that, on paper, there is unity. In reality, unity is non-existent. • Just consider what is happening between Ukraine and Russia. Where is unity? • On account of tribe, some people wouldn't marry others who aren't from their community. Is this unity? • In some homes, it is the mother vs. the father and children. Elsewhere, it is the father vs. mother and children. In some places, it is the children vs. parents (mother and father). Is this unity? • In some parts of the world, some "whites" wouldn't want to associate with "blacks." Where is unity? • In some societies or groups, it is the chairman vs. the organiser. The secretary vs. the vice chair, etc. Where is unity? Today's message is all about unity. It is all about oneness. It is a call to togetherness. 10. In our bid to be united, there would be some issues here and there. Those who have been hurt by others wouldn't want to engage with some people. Again, there would be those who would want to be on their own. Others would prefer to move with certain cliques, etc. We need to deal with these issues in order to become one. 11. There can be no progress without oneness. Unity brings development and peace. Publilius Syrus puts the above in these words: "Where there is unity, there is always victory." Martin Luther King Jr. says: "We must learn to live together or perish as fools." U---united in heart and soul N---never should we be divided I---imitate God's unity T---togetherness is key Y---yes! We are called to oneness Come Holy Spirit.....🌿

*THURSDAY OF THE SEVENTH WEEK OF EASTER* *YEAR I* *PSALTER WEEK III* *MEMORIAL OF SAINT BONIFACE, BISHOP AND MARTYR* First Reading Acts 22:30; 23:6-11 You must bear witness in Rome. A reading from the Acts of the Apostles Wishing to determine the truth about why Paul was being accused by the Jews, the commander freed him and ordered the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin to convene. Then he brought Paul down and made him stand before them. Paul was aware that some were Sadducees and some Pharisees, so he called out before the Sanhedrin, “My brothers, I am a Pharisee, the son of Pharisees; I am on trial for hope in the resurrection of the dead.” When he said this, a dispute broke out between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the group became divided. For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection or angels or spirits, while the Pharisees acknowledge all three. A great uproar occurred, and some scribes belonging to the Pharisee party stood up and sharply argued, “We find nothing wrong with this man. Suppose a spirit or an angel has spoken to him?” The dispute was so serious that the commander, afraid that Paul would be torn to pieces by them, ordered his troops to go down and rescue Paul from their midst and take him into the compound. The following night the Lord stood by him and said, “Take courage. For just as you have borne witness to my cause in Jerusalem, so you must also bear witness in Rome.” The word of the Lord. Responsorial Psalm Ps 16:1-2a and 5, 7-8, 9-10, 11 ℟. (1) Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope. or: ℟. Alleluia. Keep me, O God, for in you I take refuge; I say to the LORD, “My Lord are you.” O LORD, my allotted portion and my cup, you it is who hold fast my lot. ℟. Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope. or: ℟. Alleluia. I bless the LORD who counsels me; even in the night my heart exhorts me. I set the LORD ever before me; with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed. ℟. Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope. or: ℟. Alleluia. Therefore my heart is glad and my soul rejoices, my body, too, abides in confidence; Because you will not abandon my soul to the nether world, nor will you suffer your faithful one to undergo corruption. ℟. Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope. or: ℟. Alleluia. You will show me the path to life, fullness of joys in your presence, the delights at your right hand forever. ℟. Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope. or: ℟. Alleluia. Acclamation before the Gospel Jn 17:21 ℟. Alleluia, alleluia. May they all be one as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that the world may believe that you sent me, says the Lord. ℟. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel Jn 17:20-26 May they all be one. ✠ A reading from the holy Gospel according to John Lifting up his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed saying: “I pray not only for these, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me. And I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection as one, that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them even as you loved me. Father, they are your gift to me. I wish that where I am they also may be with me, that they may see my glory that you gave me, because you loved me before the foundation of the world. Righteous Father, the world also does not know you, but I know you, and they know that you sent me. I made known to them your name and I will make it known, that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in them.” The Gospel of the Lord

The Holy Spirit trains our hearts to be faithful in trials and gentle in triumphs. Holy Spirit, help me to embody Your faithfulness and gentleness.

*AS I BEGIN THIS DAY...* _06 June 2025_ Heavenly Father, as I begin this day, I admit my emptiness and my need for Your guidance. So often I strive on my own and come up empty, but You remind me to trust in Your word and to cast my nets where You lead. Thank You for Your patience and for calling me, even when I fail to see You at first. Father, help me today to listen to Your voice and obey without hesitation, even when I do not fully understand. Teach me to trust in Your timing and wisdom. May I cast the nets of my efforts in the direction You show, and may I receive with gratitude whatever You provide. Let this day be filled with fruitfulness, not by my strength, but by Your grace. I make this prayer through the same Christ our Lord. Amen. * *Good Morning!* 🌹🌹🌹

*ST BONIFACE* *Bishop & Martyr*🌿 *Patron of Germany* *June 5* _Boniface is originally a Latin male name which means *Doer of Good*_ Boniface was born in 680 AD in Devonshire, England. From the age of thirteen, he was educated in the Benedictine monastery of Exeter, where he later became a monk. He went on to Rome to obtain the Pope's blessing on his mission to the German people. It was a slow and dangerous task. While in Germany, he destroyed the temples of idols and built churches on their site. Once, he cut down a huge oak tree which was dedicated to the god Jupiter, and then used the tree in building a church dedicated to St Peter. Boniface was recalled to Rome, consecrated Bishop by the Pope, and returned to extend and organise the church in Germany. In 745 AD, he chose Mainz as his Episcopal See after he had established a number of dioceses. He corrected abuses and built religious houses. Boniface set out to convert a pagan tribe in Holland and while he was waiting to administer Confirmation to some newly baptised Catholics, a troop of pagans arrived. His attendants would have opposed them but he said "My children, do not resist". The pagans killed St Boniface and fifty-two Catholics who were with him on June 5, 755 AD. _Sometimes, it is better to accept whatever comes our way. It may turn out to be our ticket to redemption or salvation. May we turn all our negative attitudes into positives to glorify God. Amen_ Happy feast day to all Boniface. St Boniface, pray for us. Amen _Roncalli_
