*ON MENTAL ILLNESS* The news before was that 40% of all Ugandans have some sort of illness. It has now been reduced to 1 in 4 people. Whichever number one takes; it is bad..! I’m concerned today with the men and women who have stood, putting up a fight that they wake up everyday knowing they could lose, and facing a world of men who are wicked and unkind, a world that is cruel and evil, and a vast majority of chances that are unfair to many— including them. And yet still they stand. I hold the unconfirmed opinion that all serious mental illnesses end only in death. The mode of death differs, but the standard remains. You will hear a doctor say that, “we are managing the issue.” There’s no cure for these issues, only management. And if you know anything about management; sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. I want to urge someone out there today to be kind— ubiquitously! There’s a chance that everyday you meet someone who has at one point in their life had a chance to commit suicide; and they didn’t. These men and women are not the inconsequential and unimportant people of the society, no! They are the CEO who makes your company tick and maintains it a going concern. They are the kick-ass advocate of the city who can fix any commercial problem that a business may have. They are the minister in church that brings heaven down when they send their voice up. They are you— they look like; they belong! They are the inspiration of many that have and will probably never know what a mental health crisis is. They are part of those that hold the world together. They’re the fathers; they’re the mothers. And this they all are, because one day sometime, when they could not explain to themselves that they need to go on, when they had no strength of their own self, nothing left in them to carry on; they stared death in the eyes… … and said No! Just not yet..! - Awesome Mr Conrad
