In Memory of Lala Lateef, “Lala the Brother” https://x.com/DrNaseemBaluch/status/1926612308026962011 Dr. Naseem Baloch On the early morning of May 24, Pakistani forces murdered my cousin and friend, a journalist, Lateef Baloch, in Mashkai, Balochistan. It was not just the killing of a journalist, it was the extinguishing of one of the most gentle, resilient, and courageous souls in our people. Affectionately known as Lala Lateef in our town, as he was loved for his humility, his kind heart, and his unwavering dedication to others. He was a man who greeted everyone with warmth, who helped without asking, who stood firm without ever raising his voice. It is no surprise that the people of Mashkai called him Lala, an elder brother, not by age, but by spirit. Lateef Baloch was a journalist who reported from the shadows, from Mashkai, where internet is a dream and phone signals barely exist. He wrote despite the silence around him, he wrote the everyday suffering of the Baloch people. His work was dangerous, and he knew it. But he never stopped. This was not the first tragedy to strike out this family. In March this year, his son was abducted and killed by the same forces along with other eight close family members. His brother, my cousin Rashid Baloch, was abducted, murdered, and his body dumped in 2011. Another younger brother, Khalid a teacher of Balochi language, was abducted too, but returned after months of torture and disappearance. Lateef himself was abducted twice in the past, yet he always came back, and always returned to his work. He never let fear break his will. Journalism for him was not a career, it was resistance. But my memories of Lala Lateef go back much further. In the early 1990s, I was just a schoolboy when I first heard the anthem of the Baloch Students Organization (BSO) and other revolutionary songs, not from radio or public gatherings, but from his tape recorder at full volume at our home. He filled our home with those songs, and unknowingly, filled me with a lifelong love for revolutionary music and politics. That was my first awakening, and it came from him. Alongside Lateef Baloch, Akhtar Nadeem, Meeya Niaz, and myself, we started the first music learning club in Mashkai. It was a small act of defiance , a cultural rebellion in a land where expression was criminalized. Through that club, we gave voice to our dreams and our defiance, and Lala Lateef was at the heart of it all. His friend Khair Jan Bahmani was our music teacher (Ustad) in that club. He was more than a family member. He was a brother, a comrade, someone who shaped my political awakening in the beginning. He was in police custody in the 1990s during clashes between the Baloch Students Organization (BSO) and some religious groups. Dr. Deen Jan and Dr. Wahid (a veterinary doctor) were also jailed in the same case alongside him. We used to bring them food from our home. In other words, he had been part of the struggle for a cause since a very young age. Today, the forces have killed him, may believe they silenced a voice. But they only deepened an echo. His legacy lives in every young journalist risking truth, in every Baloch song sung in defiance, in every whisper of resistance that refuses to die. Still Mashkai calls him Lala, the brother.

*May 28: Lives Shattered in Balochistan — BNM’s Protest and Street Theater in Germany Against Pakistan’s Nuclear Tests* Tuesday, May 27, 2025 | Reference: PRBNM45/2025 https://thebnm.org/protests/23991/ Images : https://thebnm.org/footages/23246/ On May 28, 1998, the Baloch National Movement (BNM) held a public rally in the German city of Göttingen to protest against Pakistan’s nuclear tests conducted in Balochistan. The event featured a street theater performance titled “The Day the Mountains Wept”, which portrayed the lasting human and environmental impact of those nuclear experiments. In their speeches, the speakers emphasized that these nuclear tests were not acts of defense, but deliberate violence inflicted upon an oppressed nation. They stated that the people of Chagai suffered silently from radiation exposure, illness, and forced displacement. On that day, without the consent of the Baloch nation, a once-fertile region of Chagai was turned into a radioactive wasteland. To this day, they noted, the people of Chagai continue to breathe contaminated air and drink poisoned water. The region has become a hotspot for cancer and genetic disorders. While Pakistan claims Chagai is barren, in reality, 269,000 people live there — with homes, farmlands, and dreams. The nuclear blasts shattered not only the mountains but countless lives. The speakers declared May 28 a Black Day — the day Pakistan devalued Baloch lives, planted bombs in their soil and souls, and celebrated, while the Baloch nation endured the trauma in silence. They pointed out that the nuclear tests were conducted in a region already devastated by poverty and state repression. No safety protocols were followed, no evacuations arranged, and no remorse shown. Even today, the people of Chagai continue to suffer from the radioactive legacy left behind. The speakers called on the international community to investigate Pakistan’s criminal negligence during the tests, address the resulting environmental and health crises, and take meaningful action against Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal. Those who addressed the rally included BNM Germany Chapter President Shar Hassan Baloch, Vice President Safia Baloch, Joint Secretary Shali Baloch, and BNM members Asif Baloch, Faisal Khalid, Akbar Baloch, and Shali Zakir. #NukeAftermathInBalochistan *« Social Media Links: X | Facebook| Telegram | Whatsapp Channel »* https://x.com/BNMovement_/status/1927465831513870830 https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16Bsj3TxeU/ https://t.me/bnmovement/6663 https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029Va62X4iEawdvbpSBD516

*Paank April 2025 Report: 151 People Forcibly Disappeared and 23 Extrajudicially Killed in Balochistan* Wednesday , May 21, 2025 | Reference : PRBNM44/2025 Report in PDF : https://thebnm.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Paank-HR-Report-April-2025.pdf https://thebnm.org/paank/23988/ According to the monthly report issued by Paank, the human rights organization of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), incidents of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings in Balochistan persist and have alarmingly increased. The detailed report documents numerous organized and deliberate violations of human rights targeting the Baloch population across 18 districts of Balochistan. Each case included has been independently verified by Paank. In April 2025, a total of 151 individuals were forcibly disappeared by the Pakistani military and its affiliated agencies. The most affected district was Kech, with 53 cases, followed by Gwadar with 19, and Quetta (Shal) with 18 reported disappearances. Other districts with reported violations include Dera Bugti (13), Panjgur (8), Awaran (7), Sibi (6), Barkhan (5), Karachi and Mastung (4 each), Lasbela, Musakhel, Chagai, Khuzdar, and Kalat (2 each), and one case each from Washuk, Kharan, Surab, and Nushki. These figures highlight the widespread nature of state repression faced by the Baloch population throughout the province. According to Paank, victims of enforced disappearance are completely cut off from their families and the outside world, and in many cases, they are later subjected to extrajudicial killings. In April, 50 individuals were released from military detention centers, while 23 people were killed extrajudicially, with the Pakistani military directly involved. Many detainees have also sustained injuries during illegal custody or torture, though comprehensive data on such cases remains unavailable. The report provides detailed accounts of custodial killings. Several individuals who were forcibly disappeared were later found dead. Abdul Malik Baloch was abducted from Turbat (Kech) on 11 October 2024, and his body was discovered in Baghbana, Khuzdar on 4 April 2025. Shah Nawaz and Zahoor Ahmed were abducted from Mashkay, Awaran on 5 April and killed in custody, along with Habib Baloch, who had been missing since March. In a tragic incident, 12-year-old Sahel Baloch was abducted from Pasni, Gwadar in April, and his body was found behind Shah Jan Hotel in Pasni. Mehrab and Khan Muhammad were abducted and killed on 6 April. Haq Nawaz, Shero, and Gul Zaman Buzdar were forcibly disappeared from Barkhan on 5 April and later killed in a staged encounter. Bahadur Shafi and his three cousins were killed by state-backed death squads on 7 April in Washbod, Panjgur. Nadir Baloch was abducted from Kundari, Mashkay on 6 April, and his body was recovered the next day. Nizam Baloch was abducted from Pasni, and his mutilated body was found on 16 April. Farooq Ahmed Baloch was taken from Khuzdar on 14 April, and his body was discovered in Nal on 15 April. Sher Khan Nazar was abducted from Turbat and killed on 17 April. Nabeel Baloch, a student and journalist, was shot dead at Tump College, Kech in April. In Duki district, a pattern of extrajudicial killings continued under the false pretense of targeting Baloch insurgents. Victims included Muhammad Deen Marri, Ejaz Ahmed, Nabeel Marri, and Khair Muhammad Mohammad Hassani. The report emphasizes the direct involvement of the Pakistani military in these crimes and its complete impunity from legal accountability. The military’s refusal to disclose the locations of detention centers and its prevention of any access to detainees by families or legal representatives are cited as clear indicators of systematic, inhumane practices. Paank also highlights the role of state-sponsored death squads, describing them as the most ruthless arms of the military in Balochistan, operating as unaccountable machines of extrajudicial execution. Paank urges the international community and relevant institutions to immediately conduct independent investigations into these cases, disclose the whereabouts and legal basis for the detention of forcibly disappeared individuals, and take action against those responsible for these violations. In conclusion, Paank appeals to the international community to ratify and implement the international convention for the protection of all persons from enforced disappearance. The report calls for urgent steps to halt these ongoing human rights violations. If immediate action is not taken, these abuses will not only devastate individual lives in Balochistan but also pose a serious threat to regional peace and stability. *« Social Media Links: X | Facebook| Telegram | Whatsapp Channel »* https://www.facebook.com/OfficialBNM/posts/pfbid02FJ2r8Pk1nT588643QWvCfhRBLzvNqb3nmXvfFWgASGJApBdb2zggVZ9HRKgvTQhjl https://x.com/BNMovement_/status/1925260714375356846 https://t.me/bnmovement/6639 https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029Va62X4iEawdvbpSBD516
