*A Day of Love and Kindness* By: Lawal Blessing Olajumoke *Happy Valentine’s Day!* Today, we celebrate love and kindness—the universal forces that connect us all. Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romance; it’s a time to appreciate our friends, family, and community. As students, we are part of a diverse and vibrant community. Let’s use this day to spread kindness, gratitude, and unity. A small act of love can make a big difference. Take a moment today to: • Appreciate someone who has positively impacted your life. • Offer a kind word or gesture to someone who may need it. • Reflect on what you’re grateful for. Love and kindness have the power to transform our world. Let’s carry their spirit beyond today and make every day brighter. *Wishing you a Valentine’s Day filled with joy, love, and kindness!* ©️ *Press Council*

Valentine’s Day is believed to have originated from St. Valentine, a priest in ancient Rome. There are multiple legends about who he was, but the most popular one states that St. Valentine defied Emperor Claudius II, who had banned marriages for young men, believing that single men made better soldiers. Valentine secretly performed marriages and was later arrested and executed on February 14, around 269 AD. Over time, the Catholic Church honored St. Valentine’s sacrifice, and by the 5th century, Pope Gelasius officially established February 14th as St. Valentine’s Day. The romantic connection likely started during the Middle Ages when poet Geoffrey Chaucer associated the day with love and courtship. ©️Press Council.
