*📰Russia bombards Kyiv after Putin vows revenge for Operation Spiderweb* _Extensive operation saw numerous towns and cities hit across Ukraine, following on from Kyiv's attacks on Russian airbases._ _Volodymyr Zelenksyy says Russia 'targeted almost all of Ukraine' in the latest bombardment._ *FOLLOW THIS CHANNEL:✅* https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VaApfgQ1XquYatYIdE1j Russia launched an intense missile and drone barrage at Kyiv overnight, killing four people, after Vladimir Putin had vowed to respond to Operation Spiderweb. Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said on Friday that Russia had launched more than 400 drones and more than 40 missiles at the country, as he urged allies to build pressure on the Kremlin to end its war. “If someone does not put pressure and gives the war more time to take lives, they are complicit and responsible. We need to act decisively,” Zelenskyy wrote in a post on social media. Missiles and drones hammered the Ukrainian capital leading fires to rage through residential buildings and forcing the local metro system to close after a train was hit. It was part of a nationwide assault during which a mix of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, Kalibr missiles and dozens of drones were launched. Despite the efforts of Ukraine’s air defences, the authorities in Kyiv reported that three emergency workers had been killed and 20 people wounded, of whom 16 had been hospitalised. “Search and rescue operations are ongoing at several locations,” Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said on Telegram. According to the ministry of internal affairs, the three victims were firefighters from the state emergency service who died while responding to the attack. “They were working under fire to help people,” the ministry said in a statement. Operation of the city’s metro transport system was disrupted after a Russian strike damaged a train travelling between stations, the city’s military administration said. The air attack also triggered fires in residential buildings in different parts of Kyiv, authorities said. A residential block in the Solomianskyi district took severe damage to the upper floors with entire windows, balcony frames, and parts of an outer wall blown away. More than 2,000 households in Kyiv’s eastern bank remained without electricity on Friday morning. Russia’s defence ministry said that its forces had carried out the overnight attacks in response to what it called Ukrainian “terrorist acts” against Russia. Russia had previously vowed to take revenge on Ukraine after Monday’s audacious drone attack, known as Operation Spiderweb, on its bomber fleet. Initially, two TU-95MC and two TU-160MC bombers were deployed by Russia on Thursday night. This was a lower number than had been feared and may have been the result of the Kremlin’s resources being reduced by the events of 1 June. Kalibr missiles were also fired from Russian warships stationed in the Black Sea. Putin informed the US president, Donald Trump, in a call on Wednesday that Russia would respond to the operation that Ukraine has claimed damaged or destroyed 41 aircraft. “They went deep into Russia and [Putin] actually told me we have no choice but to attack based on that, and it’s probably not going to be pretty,” Trump had told reporters. Trump said it may be better to let Ukraine and Russia “fight for a while” rather than pursue peace immediately. The barrage on Kyiv had begun with the buzz of Russian kamikaze drones followed by Ukrainian anti-aircraft fire. *Online*

*📰Zanu-PF destabilising COZWA'* *FOLLOW THIS CHANNEL:✅* https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VaApfgQ1XquYatYIdE1j The leader of the Children of Zimbabwe War Veterans Association (COZWA), Munyaradzi Shoko, has accused the ruling Zanu-PF party of sponsoring a parallel organisation aimed at destabilising COZWA, which has been openly critical of President Emmerson Mnangagwa's administration. Shoko's allegations came shortly after the government launched a presidential empowerment scheme for the newly formed Children of Zimbabwe Liberation War Veterans Association (COZLWVA), described by critics as a shadowy group aligned with Zanu-PF. At a launch event held in the Midlands province earlier this week, COZLWVA received US$500,000 in seed capital to start entrepreneurial ventures. Shoko claimed this initiative was part of Zanu-PF's strategy to weaken COZWA's influence. "When we formed COZWA in 2008 in Dangamvura, Manicaland, our goal was to create opportunities for the children of war veterans. Our organisation was never politically affiliated, and we remain independent to this day," Shoko said. He alleged that Zanu-PF's dissatisfaction with COZWA's critical stance led the party to back the creation of a rival group to push its political agenda. "Zanu-PF is now sponsoring this parallel organisation through Zvigananda. They are giving this rival group money as a means to destroy COZWA," Shoko claimed. The rival body, COZLWVA, has reportedly appointed President Mnangagwa's son, Emmerson Mnangagwa Junior, as its patron—a move Shoko interpreted as an attempt to promote dynastic politics within the ruling party. "Our fathers did not fight for Mnangagwa or Zanu-PF; they fought for the country," Shoko said emphatically. "We remain committed to the people of Zimbabwe. COZWA is for the people, and we stand for the people." Shoko further accused suspected Zanu-PF loyalists of obstructing COZWA's grassroots outreach efforts. Responding to the accusations, Zanu-PF director for information, Farai Marapira, dismissed the claims as unfounded. "We are a massive, colossal party. We are empowering everyone in the country, and any allegations that we are destabilising any organisation are not true," Marapira said. The newly launched presidential empowerment scheme adds to other government initiatives led by Presidential Adviser on Special Projects, Paul Tungwarara. Political observers suggest these efforts aim to consolidate support for a controversial proposal to extend President Mnangagwa's term of office from 2028 to 2030. *NewsDay*

*📰Zimbabwe deploys drones along Mozambique border* The Zimbabwean government has intensified efforts to clamp down on smuggling along the country's porous eastern border with Mozambique through the full-scale deployment of drone surveillance technology - a move officials say is already yielding tangible results. The drones, operational since May 1, 2025, are being used extensively along key smuggling hotspots, including the Forbes Border Post, which links Manicaland Province to Mozambique's Manica Province. The new surveillance initiative has reportedly led to a decline in smuggling activities and an increase in arrests. Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza, confirmed the development and praised the role drones are playing in bolstering border security. *FOLLOW THIS CHANNEL:✅* https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VaApfgQ1XquYatYIdE1j "We have seen a notable decline in smuggling cases. Our security forces are vigilant and on top of the situation, thanks to the added surveillance capabilities provided by the drones," said Mugadza. "They are also serving as a deterrent and helping to identify individuals involved in illegal activities." The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority's (ZIMRA) acting Commissioner for Customs and Excise, Mr Adrian Swarres, echoed Mugadza's sentiments, highlighting the strategic benefits of drone technology. "Drones offer rapid deployment and real-time intelligence. With a borderline of over 700 kilometres, drones have dramatically increased the area under surveillance and reduced the need for extensive ground patrols," he said. Police have also seen a rise in smuggling-related arrests. Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the trend, though he said specific figures were not immediately available. Field investigations by The Manica Post show that the crackdown has led some former smugglers to abandon the illicit trade. Dudzai Macheso, from Hauna in Honde Valley, said he had quit smuggling bales of second-hand clothes and opened a grocery shop instead. "Smuggling has become too risky with drones watching the border. I decided to start a legitimate business," said Macheso. Meanwhile, authorities are not only relying on technology. A special police taskforce recently engaged in a fatal shootout with suspected smugglers, resulting in three arrests and the seizure of vehicles and contraband, including bales of clothing and shoes valued at thousands of dollars. During a recent inspection of Forbes Border Post, Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube announced infrastructure development plans. "We have concessioned the redevelopment of Forbes Border Post to private investors who have demonstrated their capabilities at Beitbridge. We expect a modern and efficient facility," said Ncube. The revamp is part of a broader government strategy to introduce computerised and online border management systems at all ports of entry, aimed at improving efficiency, curbing corruption, and strengthening border control. Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe recently announced the rollout of an integrated border management system that will link civil registry, police, and immigration departments. Most of the necessary hardware is already in place, with the installation of e-gates pending. "The system includes facial recognition technology and online automation to cut queues and reduce human error," said Kazembe during a tour of the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport immigration department. Additionally, plans are underway to open new formal entry points at Honde Valley and Cashel Valley to help decongest Forbes Border Post. Zimbabwe's intensified focus on border control forms part of its wider national strategy to enhance security, streamline trade, and improve the travel experience for both citizens and visitors. *Manica Post*

*📰U.S. Ambassador slams corruption in Zimbabwe* United States Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Pamela Tremont, has described corruption as a "cancer" that is depriving Zimbabweans of their national wealth and severely undermining trade and investment prospects. Speaking during the 249th U.S. Independence Day celebrations held in Harare on Wednesday, Ambassador Tremont warned that entrenched corruption continues to drive up the cost of doing business and erode confidence in Zimbabwe's economy. "A strong stance against corruption is imperative, as it is corrosive to an investment climate," she said. "I strongly encourage efforts to fight this cancer in Zimbabwe's economy that robs the Zimbabwean people of the benefit of their precious resources and raises exponentially the cost of doing business in Zimbabwe." *FOLLOW THIS CHANNEL:✅* https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VaApfgQ1XquYatYIdE1j Tremont emphasized that building a transparent and accountable investment environment would not only foster economic growth but also empower Zimbabweans to pursue prosperity and freedom. "A healthy, vibrant investment climate would create a culture of opportunity – an opportunity for what our founders 249 years ago called ‘life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.' That is what we celebrate today," she said. Her remarks come as Zimbabwe continues to grapple with widespread graft. According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, the country is losing an estimated US$2 billion annually to illicit financial flows and economic leakages — a figure that has raised alarm across the political and civil spectrum. Though he steered clear of directly addressing corruption, Foreign Affairs Minister Amon Murwira reiterated Zimbabwe's commitment to improving its investment climate. Speaking at the same event, Murwira extended an invitation to American investors. "We wish, therefore, to invite all potential United States investors to come and invest in Zimbabwe. The government is enhancing the investment climate to safeguard investors' interests and guarantee the protection of investments," Murwira said. "In 45 years, we have learned a lot. We are still learning. We are not 249 years." Zimbabwe continues to slide on the global Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) released by Transparency International. The 2024 rankings place Zimbabwe at 158 out of 180 countries, a decline from its 149th position in 2023 — a clear indication of worsening public sector corruption. Public skepticism over state spending remains high, with recent questions raised about the US$88 million cost of the newly commissioned Trabablas Interchange in Harare. Observers have pointed to significantly lower costs for similar projects elsewhere in the region, fueling allegations of inflated pricing and irregularities. As pressure mounts for reform, observers say fighting corruption will be critical for Zimbabwe to attract meaningful foreign investment and restore trust in its institutions. *NewZimbabwe*
