An Amber Heat Health Alert has been issued for the North West region, effective from 12:00 PM today (Thursday, 19th June) until 9:00 AM on Monday, 23rd June. Over the next few days, temperatures are set to be above 25 degrees ☀️ Anyone can become unwell when the weather is hot, but some people are at higher risk than others. Look out for: ✅ older people ✅ people with long-term health conditions ✅ and young children. These groups of people may find it more difficult to stay cool and hydrated in hot weather. Two men with links to Blackburn with Darwen have been named on the King’s birthday honours list. 🎉 Ram Gupta of Blackburn based IT provider Nybble will receive the British Empire Medal for his services to communities in Lancashire and Greater Manchester. Councillor Phil Riley commented: “From humble beginnings in Blackburn, Ram is a genuinely decent gentleman who does his hometown proud. “He has always stayed true to his roots and while building his business here, Ram demonstrates social responsibility by supporting local charities and organisations through his business Nybble. “It’s clear that Ram always looks for ways to give back to his local community, and has created a real culture of kindness and charity through his business operations. “We’re proud to have Ram in Blackburn with Darwen as a business leader and philanthropist. Harry is currently the Chief Executive of Tameside Council, where he began his public sector career as a 16 year old apprentice. He joined Blackburn with Darwen Council in 1997 to help set up the unitary council, playing a leading role in social services. He was with the Council for 22 years, the last seven as our Chief Executive. Former Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, Mohammed Khan CBE, said: “Harry spent more time here than at any other council and a proud moment for us both was winning the coveted Council of the Year award in 2018. “He is well known for expecting high standards across all services and for his determination to improve communities. From today, applications have reopened for the Household Support Fund in Blackburn with Darwen. Please share this info with anyone you know who is struggling financially. Help is available for things like fuel payments, food parcels, home insulation and items such as fridges, cookers and beds that may need replacing. You can apply for help through the Household Support Fund if you live in the borough, even if you are in full or part-time work. You don’t have to be claiming any benefits to be eligible for this support. You can check the eligibility criteria for applications – for example, household income and savings – and make your application online at: https://www.blackburn.gov.uk/cost-living-support/household-support-fund

June is Pride Month and Blackburn is getting ready to celebrate love, diversity and inclusion. 🏳️‍🌈 This year’s Blackburn Pride Festival promises a vibrant day of celebration honouring the LGBTQIA+ community on Saturday 21 June. 😁 With a dynamic mix of live music, drag performances, family-friendly activities, arts and crafts, community stalls, and a lively parade, this year’s event is expected to be bigger and brighter than ever before.
