"हमने तय किया है कि हम अपने ग्रुप की महिलाओं के बच्चों के लिए खुद ट्यूशन शुरू करेंगे ताकि उन्हें वह सहयोग मिल सके जो हमें कभी नहीं मिला। यह ट्यूशन हमारी ग्रुप की महिलाएँ खुद चलाएँगी।" “We have decided to start home tuition for the children of our group members so that they receive the support we never had. These tuitions will be led by the women of our group themselves”. This decision reflects how far the group has come. Women who were once hesitant to speak up and unfamiliar with decision-making are now shaping lives their own and those of the next generation. But this transformation didn’t happen overnight. It began with conversations in meetings, workshops, and informal gatherings under Azad Women Club. The club became more than just a platform for leading enterprises or utilizing entrepreneurial skills. It offered what many had never experienced before voice, visibility, and vision. Within these dialogues, they discovered their strength to lead and take ownership. The Baniyawala group is one of many such groups in the Azad Women Club, the enterprise of survivor women. Their journey stands out because it clearly shows what happens when women are trusted, supported, and encouraged to take the lead. A significant milestone for the group was the successful production and sale of a full batch of handmade slippers. They have transitioned from planning to decision-making. Their enthusiasm has not faded in fact; it has only increased. They are now preparing to make more batches of slippers. The group’s determination and discipline demonstrate what is possible when women are given the space to lead. During one of their group discussions, the women shared concerns about their children’s studies. With limited access to external tuition and no structured learning support at home, many students struggled to keep pace with schoolwork. The group decided to initiate home tuition for their children, led by their own members. Women within the group who had studied up to class 8 or 10 offered to take the initiative, refusing to depend on costly or inaccessible options. This is what happens when women stop waiting and start leading when they turn concern into action and hope into opportunity.

My name is Farida Yasmin. I come from a poor family, and because of our financial condition, I couldn’t get a proper education. I didn’t know much back then, and I wasn’t very good at studies either. But everything changed when Empower People started a free coaching centre in our village. I enrolled while I was in Class 10, constantly worried about how I would pass my matriculation exam. At the centre, I received support in general mathematics and general science, and our sir taught us much more than the syllabus he taught us to believe in ourselves. Thanks to this support, I passed my exam in with a first division. I never thought that a girl like me from a background where education was a luxury could ever achieve this. Today, I’m studying science in higher secondary school and dreaming of becoming a nurse someday, so I can serve people in my community. “A child is meant to learn, not to earn.” — seen on a handmade placard carried by young voices demanding change. On this World Day Against Child Labour, we remember not just the children forced into labor, but also those who are vulnerable to exploitation including trafficking because they are denied education. When poverty closes doors, it is education that opens them again. At Empower People, we believe education is more than just books it is protection. We are helping girls like me stay in school, avoid early marriage, and resist the traps of labor and trafficking. Let's raise our voices, raise awareness, and support vulnerable children. Women across districts are uniting and raising their voices! These photos show subsisters in cross region marriage from different districts coming together to read, discuss, and endorse a demand charter to ensure dignity and legal protection for women in cross-regional marriages. These discussions are part of a collective effort by women especially those in cross-regional marriages to demand concrete changes. Below are some key demands they have put forward: हमारी मांगे (Our Demands): 1. स्पष्ट नियम व दिशा-निर्देश – सरकार SOP (स्टैंडर्ड ऑपरेटिंग प्रोसीजर) बनाए, जिसमें अंतरक्षेत्री विवाह को लेकर स्पष्ट दिशा-निर्देश और नियम हों, ताकि हम महिलाओं के मौलिक अधिकार और सम्मान को सुनिश्चित किया जा सके। Clear Guidelines and SOPs – The government must create a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that includes clear rules and directions regarding cross-regional marriages, so that women’s fundamental rights and dignity can be protected. 2. अंतरक्षेत्री विवाह का पंजीकरण अनिवार्य किया जाए – अंतरक्षेत्री शादी होने पर सबसे पहले शादी करके लाने वाले (दुल्हा) और उसके घरवालों पर कानूनी बाध्यता की जाए कि हर हाल में उन्हें यह शादी एक हफ्ते के अंदर रजिस्टर्ड कराना होगा। अन्यथा पुरुष पक्ष के खिलाफ कानूनी कार्रवाई की जाए। Mandatory Registration of Cross-Regional Marriages – Once a cross-regional marriage takes place, the groom and his family must be legally bound to register the marriage within one week. If they fail to do so, legal action must be taken against them. 3. आर्थिक सुरक्षा – अंतरक्षेत्री शादी होने की स्थिति में सरकार द्वारा कुछ निर्धारित राशि हमें महिलाओं को प्रदान की जाए, ताकि हमारा भविष्य सुरक्षित हो और ससुराल पक्ष भी विवाह पंजीकरण कराने के लिए स्वतः प्रेरित हों। Economic Security – In the case of cross-regional marriages, the government should provide a fixed amount of financial support to the woman. This would help ensure her future is secure and also motivate the husband’s family to voluntarily register the marriage. Together, they turn individual struggles into collective strength. “हम एक-दूसरे के बिना अधूरे थे, लेकिन हमें इसका एहसास ही नहीं था। अब जब हम जुड़े हैं, तो एक परिवार जैसा एहसास होता है। पहले कोई भी जरूरत पड़ती थी तो बाहर मदद ढूँढनी पड़ती थी, अब सबसे पहले हम अपनी बहनों की तरफ देखते हैं। अगर किसी के पास नहीं होता, तभी हम किसी और से कहते हैं। हमारे लिए अब हमारी बहनें प्राथमिकता हैं। अगर ये मीटिंग्स और वर्कशॉप न होतीं, तो हम कभी नहीं समझ पाते कि हम साथ आकर कितने मजबूत हो सकते हैं। अब तसल्ली है कि कोई तो है, जिससे हम दिल की बात कर सकते हैं, जिसके पास बैठकर रो सकते हैं, और जो हमें बिना कहे भी समझता है।”
