As we come to CHRIST JESUS by faith our hearts are circumcised. GOD writes His statutes and commandments upon our hearts and places a desire and a will within us to know, to love and to obey Him. Our flesh... our carnal nature...is crucified. We are cleansed, our sins forgiven and we are righteous before GOD. The sign of our blood covenant relationship with GOD is not an outward circumcision of the flesh, but the circumcision of the heart. Apostle Paul told the Romans: "For he is not a (real) Jew who is only one outwardly and publicly, nor is (true) circumcision something external and physical. But he is a Jew who is inwardly, and (true) circumcision is of the heart, a spiritual and not a literal (matter)..." [Romans 2:28--29]. He told the Colossians: "In Him also you were circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, but in a (spiritual circumcision (performed by) CHRIST by stripping off the body of the flesh (the whole corrupt, carnal nature with its passions and lusts). (Thus you were circumcised when) you were buried with Him in (your) baptism, in which you were also raised with Him (to a new life) through (your) faith in the working of GOD (as displayed) when He raised Him up from the dead" [Colossians 2:11--12]. Without this spiritual circumcision of the heart, there can be no covenant relationship with GOD! It is through faith in the Spirit of GOD working within us that our hearts are circumcised, not through our own futile attempts of trying to crucify our flesh. Our righteousness is *by faith,* not in works. Our dependence must not be upon ourselves... our own ability... to live a holy life in obedience to GOD, but upon the Spirit GOD has placed within us to accomplish His righteousness in us. In obedience to GOD'S command to keep the covenant through circumcision, Abraham took Ishmael and every male in his household and circumcised them that very day! [Genesis 17:23]. The blood covenant between GOD and Abraham was *sealed* by Abraham's act of obedience, when he demonstrated his willingness to offer up his only son, Isaac. *To inherit the covenant blessings of GOD, we must keep the covenant by walking in obedience to GOD.* GOD requires obedience under both the Old and New Covenants. Don't allow anyone to tell you that obedience to GOD'S commandments is no longer necessary under the New Covenant. It is! The difference is that under the Old Covenant, in their sinful state, it was impossible for the Israelites to obey the Law. Under the New Covenant, JEHOVAH GOD has given us the DESIRE, the WILL and the POWER to walk in 100% obedience to GOD! (This topic continues, Genesis 22:1--18).

In Genesis 17:9--14, we see GOD, having laid out the covenant blessings, laid out the conditions or terms of this covenant that Abraham must keep. The major requirement or condition GOD laid out in order for Abraham and his seed to inherit the covenant blessings was OBEDIENCE. Circumcision of the flesh was to be a sign of the covenant. Those who failed to obey and remained uncircumcised were guilty of breaking the covenant and were to be considered as outcasts and cut off from their people. The circumcision of the flesh in the Old Covenant is a foreshadowing of the circumcision which takes place in the heart and spirit of the "seed" of Abraham under the New Covenant. It was through faith in GOD'S promise that Abraham was considered in right standing with GOD. Apostle Paul told the Romans: "... We say that faith was credited to Abraham as righteousness. How then was it credited (to him)? Was it before or after he had been circumcised? It was not after, but before he was circumcised. He received the mark of circumcision as a token or an evidence or seal of the righteousness which he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised, (faith) that he was to be made the father of all who (truly) believe though without circumcision and who thus have righteousness (right standing with GOD) imputed to them and credited to their account" [Romans 4:9--11]. Under the New Covenant JEHOVAH LORD still requires circumcision. We who are Abraham's seed enter into a covenant relationship through faith in the resurrected CHRIST JESUS and His power to save. We are considered righteous and are justified and established in right standing with GOD through our faith.

In Genesis 22:1--18, we see that before the sealing of the covenant, GOD put Abraham to the test. He wanted Abraham to prove himself that he would be obedient to Him. GOD asked Abraham to sacrifice... to give to Him his most-prized possession... the son he had longed and waited for. GOD knew that if Abraham was willing to give his only son as an act of his obedience and total surrender to GOD, that He would remain faithful to the covenant they had made. There were no reasons given *why,* only a command which must be obeyed. Abraham did not try to reason with GOD or try to get Him to change His mind. He did not try to determine whether or not he had heard GOD right. He did not ask for a sign to confirm the instruction he had received from GOD. Through faith...a loyalty to GOD; an assurance that GOD was going to do what He had promised... Abraham OBEYED. Abraham did not waver in his faith. He held on to his covenant promise. Although, in obedience to GOD, he was preparing to sacrifice the son through which GOD had promised to make him the father of many nations, *Abraham did not let go of his promise.* By faith he told the servants, "*We* will worship and then *we* will come back to you. He did not limit GOD. He trusted in the One Who had caused his barren wife to conceive long after they were both beyond childbearing age. Abraham didn't know how or when, but he knew GOD had made a covenant promise to him and that He would not break it. When Isaac asked him about the lamb for the burnt offering, Abraham *believed* GOD would provide. GOD saw that Abraham truly belonged to Him. GOD saw that he was not holding back anything. He had totally and unreservedly surrendered all that he had to GOD. All that Abraham was and all that he possessed belonged 100% to GOD. Abraham loved GOD with all his spirit, soul, mind and strength and it was out of this heart of love and reverential fear that he surrendered all that he had and obeyed GOD. GOD requires obedience, and there is no way that a Christian can walk in obedience to GOD without a complete and full surrender of their will and all that they have.

*GENESIS 22:1--18* >> And it came to pass after these things, that GOD did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. *2* And He said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. *3* And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which GOD had told him. *4* Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off. *5* And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you. *6* And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together. *7* And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? *8* And Abraham said, My son, GOD will provide Himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

In Genesis 17:1--8, we see that GOD confirmed three specific covenant promises to Abram: 1. Abram was to be the father of many nations, a confirmation of GOD'S promise to multiply his seed as the "dust of the earth" [Genesis 13:16], and as the stars of the heaven [Genesis 15:5]. 2. GOD promised to be Abram's GOD and the GOD of his descendants. 3. GOD promised to give Abram and his "seed" the *land of Canaan* as an everlasting possession. In the Old Testament, when two families entered into a blood covenant, they each took one another's name as a testimony forever that they were *one.* In this covenant relationship, GOD took Abram's name as a testimony of His covenant relationship with him. Many times GOD referred to Himself as the "GOD of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob" [Exodus 2:24, Leviticus 26:42]. In doing this, GOD was signifying that He had become covenant partners with Abram and that Abram's family...his descendants...had become His family. GOD was signifying that His strength, His power, His glory had become Abram's. GOD also gave Abram and Sarai *new* names, signifying their new relationship under this blood covenant [Genesis 17:5,15]. The covenant GOD made with Abraham also included his "seed." The covenant promises were not referring to Abraham's natural descendants but to spiritual descendants. Apostle Paul told the Galatians: "Now the promises (covenant, agreements) were decreed and made to Abraham and his Seed (his Offspring, his Heir). He (GOD) does not say, And to seeds (descendants, heirs), as if referring to many persons; but, And to your Seed (your Descendant, your Heir), obviously referring to one individual, Who is (none other than) CHRIST, the MESSIAH... And if you belong to CHRIST (are in Him, Who is Abraham's Seed), then you are Abraham's offspring and (spiritual) heirs according to promise" [Galatians 3:16,29.] *We have inherited all the promises made to Abraham under the Old Covenant!* And, under the New Covenant, we have access to these covenant promises through faith. To claim your covenant promises you must have a breakthrough where you are not limiting GOD. So many Christians today can believe GOD'S promise of salvation and forgiveness of their sins, but they cannot believe GOD'S covenant promise of healing. Others can believe GOD'S covenant promise for healing, but cannot believe GOD'S covenant promise of divine provision for their physical and material needs. The time has come for GOD'S people to walk in a "covenant anointing," where they are appropriating by faith ALL the promises GOD has given us through the everlasting covenant He has made with us. (This topic continues, Genesis 17:9--14.)

*9* And they came to the place which GOD had told him of; and Abraham built an alter there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood. *10* And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son. *11* And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I. *12* And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest GOD, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me. *13* And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. *14* And Abraham called the name of that place JEHOVAH-Jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen. *15* And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time, *16* And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: *17* That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; *18* And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

In writing to the Hebrews, Apostle Paul said: "For when GOD made (His) promise to Abraham, He swore by Himself, since He had no one greater by whom to swear, Saying, Blessing I certainly will bless you and multiplying I will multiply you. And so it was that he (Abraham) having waited long and endured patiently, realized and obtained (in the birth of Isaac as a pledge of what was to come) what GOD had promised him. Men indeed swear by a greater (than themselves), and with them in all disputes the oath taken for confirmation is final -- ending strife. Accordingly, GOD also, in His desire *to show more convincingly and beyond doubt, to those who were to inherit the promise,* the unchangeable of His purpose and plan, intervened (mediated) with an oath. This was so that by two unchangeable things (His promise and His oath), in which it is impossible for GOD ever to prove false or deceive us, we who have fled (to Him) for refuge might have mighty indwelling strength and strong encouragement to grasp and hold fast the *hope* appointed for us and set before (us). (Now) we have this (*hope*) as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul -- it cannot slip and it cannot break down under whoever steps out upon it -- (a *hope*) that reaches farther and enters into (the very certainty of the Presence) within the veil [Hebrews 6:13--19]. The covenant GOD has given to us, as the seed of Abraham, which contains *all* of the covenant promises, has been sealed with GOD'S oath. Since it is impossible for GOD "to prove false or deceive us," this covenant He has given us becomes our HOPE... the desire accompanied by expectation for fulfillment. (This topic continues, Exodus 2:24--25.)

*GENESIS 17:9--14* >> And GOD said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations. *10* This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised. *11* And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you. *12* And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed. *13* He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. *14* And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.

*GENESIS 17:1--8*>> And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the ALMIGHTY GOD; walk before me, and be thou perfect. *2* And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly. *3* And Abram fell on his face: and GOD talked with him, saying, *4* As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations. *5* Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. *6* And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. *7* And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a GOD unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. *8* And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their GOD.

One of the greatest strengths that we have against Satan's attacks upon our lives is our ability through the power of the Holy Spirit to intercede in a consistent time of prayer. We must come to a place of brokenness before GOD where we are willing to pay the cost, regardless of what it may be, to have a new and fresh manifestation of His Spirit in our lives. It takes *spiritual energy* to bring about results in your life. We must be willing to "plow up the hardness of our hearts, otherwise the good seed will be wasted among the thorns" [Jeremiah 4:3]. You must be willing to get alone with GOD... to weep... travail... to wait before Him with a specific goal in mind. You must have a single-minded determination to get rid of all the "weeds" that have grown and infested your heart and mind. This spiritual preparation is so vital. It cannot be done haphazardly or in haste. Once you have "plowed" up the stony ground in your heart and removed all the distractions, be prepared to receive the revelation that GOD is going to bring forth in your life a NEW manifestation of His love, faith, power, and revelation knowledge. It must be mixed with faith; you must EXPECT GOD to begin a new work in your life. Just as the disciples received the promise of "new power from on high" and went back into Jerusalem with "great joy praising GOD" for what He was going to do in their lives, you must by faith begin to praise GOD for these new and fresh manifestations that are going to come forth in your life [Isaiah 61:11]. Be ready to receive your *full portion!* (This topic continues, Mark 11:22--23.)
