The Assad regime, led by Hafez al-Assad from 1971 to 2000 and then by his son Bashar since 2000, has been a Ba’athist dictatorship rooted in secular Arab nationalism. It relies on a mix of military control, a pervasive security apparatus, and alliances with minority groups (notably Alawites) to maintain power. North Korea, under the Kim dynasty since 1948, operates as a totalitarian state with a juche (self-reliance) ideology, a personality cult around the Kim family, and a near-complete suppression of dissent. Both regimes are brutal.
In terms of human rights, both are notorious for atrocities. The Assad regime has used extreme violence to suppress opposition, especially during the Syrian Civil War (2011–present). Tactics include mass arrests, torture in facilities like Sednaya prison (often called a "human slaughterhouse"), chemical weapons attacks, and barrel bombings of civilian areas. Estimates suggest hundreds of thousands have died, with over 100,000 reportedly tortured or executed in detention. North Korea, meanwhile, maintains a sprawling network of political prison camps (kwanliso) where tens of thousands endure starvation, forced labor, and executions. Defectors report public executions, generational punishment, and near-total control over information. Both regimes weaponize fear.
Racists accuse others of being racists. Ignorants accuse others of being ignorant. Criminals play victim. Radical leftists are becoming extremely involved in their desperate attempt to cancel otherness. Cancel-culture movements have to stop. All lives matter.
Classical" means traditional. It refers to something rooted in tradition, often tied to historical or long-established practices. For example, "classical art" refers to the traditional styles of ancient Greece and Rome, or "classical education" refers to a time-honored approach to learning. So, if you want to convey that a method is traditional, "this method is classical" is the right choice. "Classic" does not specifically mean traditional. It refers to something timeless, exemplary, or quintessential—something that stands out as a model of its kind. While a "classic" thing might also be old or enduring, its focus is more on quality or recognition than on being tied to tradition (e.g., "a classic car" might be a well-known model from the 1960s, not necessarily "traditional" in design).
