ActionSA is calling for KZN Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane to resign over her “dishonesty” about medicine shortages in the province. The Limpopo health department is being criticised for paying R150,000 a month in rent for a dilapidated building in Polokwane that houses its provincial medicine depot. This depot plays a vital role in supplying medicines to over 400 clinics and 43 hospitals across the province. Poor conditions include water leaks causing damage and workers are concerned about their health. Even though the lease expired in April 2024, the department is still paying rent. https://health-e.org.za/2025/02/17/limpopo-health-department-under-fire-for-paying-r150000-monthly-rent-for-dilapidated-building/

South Africa’s plan for universal healthcare is facing tough questions. Following President Trump’s executive order to pause foreign aid for 90 days, the US has exempted funding for humanitarian aid, including life-saving medicines. But it's unclear what this means for South African HIV programmes funded by PEPFAR. Professor Linda-Gail Bekker of the Desmond Tutu Health Foundation confirms that nearly all PEPFAR-related programmes, including HIV treatment, care, and research, have been put on hold. This includes key services for marginalised groups. Find out more from other experts here: https://health-e.org.za/2025/01/31/experts-warn-of-hiv-crisis-as-pepfar-funds-paused/

NPO Future Families, which operates in Limpopo, Gauteng, and North West, has shut down all activities due to Trump's 90-day foreign aid freeze. 43 of its 59 staff in Limpopo are now on unpaid leave, halting essential services like trauma support for GBV victims and HIV prevention programmes.
