*BREAKING NEWS:* The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has shut down the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) office located in Zone 5, Abuja. This drastic move was taken due to the FIRS' failure to pay ground rent on the property for an astonishing 25 years. Yes, you read that right—a quarter of a century of unpaid ground rent by the nation's top tax authority. This development raises serious questions about accountability and compliance, even among government agencies responsible for enforcing financial laws.

*🚨 BREAKING: Trump Administration Revokes Harvard's Authority to Enroll International Students* In a significant escalation of tensions between the Trump administration and elite academic institutions, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced on May 22, 2025, that Harvard University's certification to enroll international students has been revoked. This decision affects over 6,800 international students currently enrolled at Harvard, compelling them to transfer to other institutions or risk losing their legal status in the United States. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem cited Harvard's alleged promotion of antisemitism, failure to comply with information requests regarding foreign students, and purported collaboration with the Chinese Communist Party as reasons for the revocation. Harvard University has responded by filing a lawsuit in federal court, arguing that the revocation violates the First Amendment and poses significant harm to its international student body. A federal judge has issued a temporary restraining order blocking the administration's move, providing temporary relief to affected students. This development has sparked widespread concern among the academic community and international students, highlighting the ongoing conflict between the federal government and higher education institutions over issues of governance, free speech, and academic independence.

BREAKING: Saudi Arabia Deports Sheikh Gumi, Stops Him from Performing 2025 Hajj Kaduna-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has been denied entry into Saudi Arabia to perform the 2025 Hajj and has been deported back to Nigeria. Sheikh Gumi, who was part of a delegation sponsored by the Nigerian Hajj Commission (NAHCON), revealed on his Facebook page that despite being granted a visa, he was barred from entering Medina to begin his religious obligations. “Due to some reasons related to my views on world politics, the authorities in Saudi Arabia do not want me to be present at Hajj even though they have granted me a visa,” he wrote. He appreciated the Nigerian authorities for promising to engage with the Saudi government over the issue. Gumi had arrived in Medina last Saturday night via an Umza Air flight, but was stopped by Saudi immigration officials and subsequently sent back to Nigeria, where he has resumed his teaching and daily activities.

Nigeria Customs Intercepts Stolen Canadian Vehicles, Codeine, and Other Contrabands Worth ₦3.2 Billion at Apapa Port Date: May 23, 2025 By: Insight by Oppy Newsroom The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded a major victory in the fight against transnational smuggling and drug trafficking with the interception of stolen luxury vehicles and banned substances valued at over ₦3.2 billion. The high-profile seizures were made at the Apapa Port in Lagos and other critical entry points across the country. Luxury Cars Worth Over ₦1.8 Billion Recovered In a well-coordinated intelligence-driven operation tagged Operation Transit Charge, the NCS recovered 21 exotic vehicles stolen from Canada and smuggled into Nigeria using forged documents and identity switches. The seized vehicles, which include high-end brands such as Rolls Royce, Lamborghini Huracán, Mercedes-AMG G-Wagon, and Range Rover Sport, were concealed in shipping containers and falsely declared to avoid detection. Speaking at a press briefing, Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, confirmed that the operation was conducted in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), INTERPOL, and the Canadian authorities. > “These stolen vehicles were traced using VIN tracking technology and intelligence sharing with international agencies. West Africa is being targeted by criminal syndicates as a destination for stolen vehicles, and Nigeria is committed to reversing that trend,” he said. The Customs boss disclosed that the recovered vehicles would be returned to Canada, with perpetrators already under investigation. The NCS called on Nigerians, particularly importers and clearing agents, to abide by regulations and avoid involvement in smuggling. The agency also encouraged whistleblowing and citizen cooperation to curb the activities of criminal syndicates operating within the borders. These landmark seizures not only highlight the efficiency of Nigeria’s customs enforcement but also send a strong message to international smuggling networks. The NCS has reiterated its commitment to securing the nation’s ports and borders from illicit trade, ensuring Nigeria does not become a dumping ground for stolen property or illegal drugs.
