*The Husband and The Wife Praying Together* It is desirable for them to offer two units of prayer (rakʿatayn) together, because that has been transmitted from the Salaf, and there are two traditions in this regard: The first: It was reported on the authority of Abū Saʿīd, the freed slave of Abū Usayd (raḍiyAllāhu ʿanhu) that he said: “I got married while I was a slave. I invited a number of the Companions of the Prophet (ﷺ), including Ibn Masʿūd, Abū Dharr and Hudayfah (raḍiyAllāhu ʿanhum). When the prayer was called, Abū Dharr began to step forward, but the others said to him: ‘No!’ He said: ‘Is it so?’ And they said: ‘Yes.’ So I stepped forward and led the prayer, though I was a slave. They taught me, saying: ‘When your wife comes to you, offer two units of prayer, then, ask Allāh for the good (khayr) of that which has come to you, and seek refuge in Him from its evil (sharr). Then it is up to you and it is up to your wife.” The second: It was reported on the authority of Shaqīq (raḍiyAllāhu ʿanhu), who said: “A man known as Abū Ḥariz came and said: ‘I have married a young girl, and I am afraid that she will despise me.’ ʿAbdullāh Ibn Masʿūd (raḍiyAllāhu ʿanhu) said: ‘Verily, closeness is from Allāh, and hatred is from Satan, who desires to make despicable to you that which Allāh has permitted. So, when your wife comes to you, tell her to offer two units of prayer behind you.” In another narration on the authority of Ibn Masʿūd (raḍiyAllāhu ʿanhu), it was reported that he said: “And say: *“Allahumma bārik lī fī ahli, wa bārik lahum fiyya; Allāhuma ajmaʿ baynanā mā jamaʿta bi-khayr; wa faraq baynanā idhā farata ilā khayr.”* *“O Allāh! Bestow Your blessings on me with regard to my wife, and on her with regard to me. O Allāh! *We must ask Allah to include us amongst the inhabitants of Paradise* because its blessings are unrivalled, and it has been authentically reported from the Prophet ﷺ who said: *"The two units of prayer before the Fajr (dawn) prayer are better than the luxuries of the worldly life and whatever it contains."* _The brief Sunnah prayer that is made up of two units is better than the entire worldly life._ Nowadays, people go in every direction whether it be in extreme heat or cold to gain an insignificant portion of the worldly luxuries, yet two units of prayer are better than the entire world and whatevet it contains. A person should not congratulate for the birth of male-children only and ignore females.
