Far from a goalfest in this season opener, but that may be expected from two teams that project to be among the West’s best. Two thoughts from the first hour-plus: 1) I'm not going to read too much into lineup decisions until a larger sample size materializes, but there's no best iteration of Minnesota United that has Robin Lod on its bench from kickoff. 2) LAFC's squad is surprisingly mid (by their own standard, and that of MLS these days), and their tactics seldom dictate the flow of their games. They could fall off this year if there isn't a squad upgrade or tactical tweak in the works. -Jeff Rueter

It’s been tough to gauge MLS’ relevance - in media at least - since the league put itself behind a paywall on Apple TV+. MLS no longer has to deal with the ignominy of getting worse ratings on cable than, for example, professional cornhole. That makes it interesting (and rare) to get any kind of look at ratings data on Apple, even if it’s in their own charts… “Onside,” the MLS docuseries that dropped last week, isn’t doing particularly well. -Pablo Maurer
