Next up on #MyCircularStory is RanMarine - Nature's waterway champions at work! Watch as RanMarineTechnology 's innovative WasteShark and MegaShark aquatic robots glide through our waterways, silently collecting floating pollution before it reaches our oceans. Founded by South African-born @RichardHardiman, these smart, electric-powered vessels are revolutionising water clean-up around the world. More than just waste collectors, these high-tech "sharks" gather crucial water-quality data while swimming through aquatic ecosystems. Beyond their innovative technology, RanMarine partners with stakeholders to make sure waste collected doesn’t end up in landfills. "I saw in Cape Town how much plastic was damaging our environmental systems," Richard explains. "We developed the WasteShark to harvest plastic out of water before it gets to the greater oceans." From small beginnings to the larger MegaShark, these incredible machines are transforming polluted waters and leaving ecosystems in far better shape - one

Yesterday, the CSA team met in person for a day that brought connection, reflection, and renewed focus. We began the morning in nature with a hike, followed by a shared brunch and intentional conversation about the future of CSA, our collective vision, and the steps we have taken to get here. These moments reminded us of the importance of taking time to align not only on strategy, but also on values. As a remote team, these opportunities to meet face-to-face carry significance. They allow space to reconnect, strengthen collaboration, and deepen our commitment to the work ahead. CSA remains focused on advancing a circular economy that is accessible, inclusive and far-reaching—supporting people and businesses to adopt circular practices in ways that are practical, effective and grounded in context. We are grateful for the time together and for the shared commitment that continues to shape this work. Introducing our #CircularEconomyExplained series! South Africa is rich in natural resources, yet more than 20% of extracted resources are exported for beneficiation abroad. This reliance on exports poses a developmental risk—our resources are depleted locally, but the economic benefits aren’t equally shared, deepening inequality. Over the next few months, we’ll explore circular economy opportunities across key sectors—Mining, Human Settlements, Mobility, Energy, Agriculture, Water, and Manufacturing. Stay tuned!
