Coders were hit hardest among Microsoft’s 2,000-person layoff. Over 40% of the people laid off were in software engineering, making it by far the largest category. *Jony Ive Joins OpenAI to Build the Future of AI Devices* OpenAI just made its biggest move yet in hardware by acquiring io, the secretive startup co-founded by legendary Apple designer Jony Ive and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The $6.5 billion all-equity deal brings io and its 55-person team — made up largely of ex-Apple engineers and designers — fully under OpenAI’s wing. As part of the acquisition, Ive and his design firm LoveFrom will lead creative and product design across OpenAI.
