_*How many eggs can I safely eat?*_ 🥚A few years ago, the advice was to eat no more than one or two whole eggs per week. The reason was the high amount of cholesterol in egg yolks — approximately 200 milligrams (mg) per egg. The previous cholesterol guidelines recommended no more than 300 mg of dietary cholesterol per day. 🥚More recent research found that dietary cholesterol had little influence on blood levels of total and "bad" LDL cholesterol. Instead, it is dietary saturated fats that raise these blood levels. The reason? Most of the cholesterol in your body does not come from your diet, but is made by your liver. And saturated fat in the diet can cause your liver to make lots of cholesterol. 🥚While recent studies still don't offer a consistent answer, the average healthy person likely suffers no harm from eating up to seven eggs per week. In fact, eggs are a nutritious food. They are relatively low in calories and saturated fat, and rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals. They also contain nutrients, such as lutein and zeaxanthin, which are good for the eyes, and choline, which helps supports the brain and nervous system.

Types of Sickle Cell Disease There are several types of SCD. The specific type of SCD a person has depends on the genes they inherited from their parents. People with SCD inherit genes that contain instructions, or code, for abnormal hemoglobin. Below are the most common types of SCD: SS People who have this form of SCD inherit two genes, one from each parent, that code for hemoglobin "S." Hemoglobin S is an abnormal form of hemoglobin that causes the red cells to become rigid, and sickle shaped. This is commonly called sickle cell anemia and is usually the most severe form of the disease. SC People who have this form of SCD inherit a hemoglobin S gene from one parent and a gene for a different type of abnormal hemoglobin called "C" from the other parent. This is usually a milder form of SCD. #MayorHealth #WorldSickleCellAwarenessDay

Can Sickle Cell Disease be prevented? You can’t prevent sickle cell disease because it’s a genetic condition. If you’re pregnant, consider talking to your provider about genetic testing or genetic counseling. People with the following phenotype should not get married to each other or give birth: AS, AC, SC, SS or CC. #MayorHealth
