FROM MY BREAK For the past 2 months I have been on break from social media, especially from Facebook. Yesterday, I discovered that many people have been asking me to air my view on the online debate on the priestly formation in Nigeria initiated by our brother Prince Chidi Philip . I still have one month break. I will react to the discussion if still necessary when I return from my break. Meanwhile, if you have read this book, it will help you understand the HISTORICAL background of the discussion. For those who are worried about my long break or absence, I am fine. I am missing you all too. In the meantime, based on the discussion, I have this question for you: My question: Can you tell me any sector in Nïgeria that does not need urgent reform? NONE! In a jungle there are hardly any safe havens. The political reality of a society determines how every sector functions. This is why on this page we centred on 3 major issues, namely, politics, culture and religion because they influence each other. As long as you live in a society where might is accepted as right, where ignorance is incensed but knowledge is attacked, where lawbreakers become lawmakers, etc., every part of the roof will be leaking. I mean EVERY part! The worst is that the more you patch, the more leakages you create. The Nïgerian leakages can only be resolved by regional or self-government. The present political structure is the major cause of every leakage you see anywhere, be it in education, security, justice, governance etc. I am happy to see many catholic priests calling out the political leaders of Benue on the most recent kilĺïngs in the state. How I wish that discussions on security of lives would receive among priests the same attention the current discussion on priestly formation is receiving. That alone will go a long way to tell the world that our priestly training in Nigeria may have Nïgerian sickness but still genuine and sincere. Fada Angelo Chidi Unegbu #returntofactorysettings
