The African Chess Confederation is thrilled to take this opportunity to congratulate the Chess Federation of Lesotho and the Chess Association of Malawi on the several nominations and awards they won during their respective Annual National Sports Awards. The ACC Executive Board is ecstatic to learn that the Chess Federation of Lesotho swept four awards during the Lesotho Annual Sports Awards. Achieving a resounding triumph in the Junior Sportspersons of the Year section with Relebohile Ntsielo and Lebajoa Ts'ephe emerging as the Junior Female and Male Sportsperson of Year Award. The crowning glory was Relebohile Ntsielo also claiming the Sportswoman of the Year Award, culminating the night with both the Junior Female Sportsperson of the Year and Sportswoman of the Year Award. Also claiming an award was Chess gaffer Moseli Phera who swept the Coach of the Year award as the Chess Federation of Lesotho concluded the night with four esteemed awards. Meanwhile, the Chess Association of Malawi emerged as the winner of the Best Sports Development Program of the Year at the Malawi Annual Sports Awards 2024. The African Chess Confederation seizes this moment to applaud its affiliates, chess players, administrators, and chess parents for these resounding successes, as we are truly beaming with pride. And to the national sports councilors, sponsors, chess stakeholders, and representative governments, the African Chess Confederation expresses its deepest gratitude for the pivotal role you play in advancing and growing chess in Africa.

These changes aim to strengthen chess development worldwide while streamlining support for FIDE beneficiaries. Designating 2025 as the Year of Social Chess, FIDE is introducing additional funding opportunities for projects that demonstrate community impact. The answer is... it's false! GM Ahmed Adly was the first player to achieve two African Individual Chess Championship titles. Notably, Bassem Amin has secured more AICC titles [7] won in 2009, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2022, and 2024 than Ahmed Adly [4] secured in 2005, 2011, 2019, 2021. ❤️

❗Call for Submissions: FIDE Veteran Support Program 2025 The International Chess Federation is pleased to announce the continuation of its support for chess veterans. Grants will be awarded to distinguished players, coaches, and organizers aged 65 and older. Anyone meeting this age requirement who has contributed to the development of chess and is facing an unstable financial situation is eligible to apply. ✉️ As in previous years, we invite federations, clubs, and individuals to submit applications, including a CV of the nominee, to the FIDE Secretariat at [email protected]. ⏳Submission deadline: March 1, 2025.

🤝We are delighted to announce official collaboration with the 14th edition of one of the strongest festivals focused on women’s chess - WGM Radzikowska Chess Festival! ♟️It is a tribute to one of the strongest Polish🇵🇱 female chess players in history, Krystyna Radzikowska. She won Polish Championship a record 9 times, won gold on board 1 at the 1957 Chess Olympiad and participated in two Candidates Tournaments! 👏The Festival does a true honour to the memory of this player. It holds various tournaments and events for girls and women, as well as its main highlight—the highly anticipated Match between Poland’s🇵🇱 strongest women grandmasters and the Rest of the World Team🌎 📍The Festival will take place from 7th till 14th March in Wroclaw, Poland. Over the years, the event has welcomed some of the greatest female players in the world as part of Team World, including: 🌟 Antoaneta Stefanova (former Women’s World Champion) 🌟 Harika Dronavalli (India’s top female player, current Olympic Champion) 🌟 Pia Cramling (legendary Swedish grandmaster) And of course Polish stars: 🌟 Monika Socko (only polish player with a title of a GM, 8-time Polish Women’s Champion, former Women’s European Champion, winner of the Olympic silver medal with Team Poland) 🌟 Jolanta Zawadzka (4-time Polish Women’s Champion, winner of the Olympic silver medal with Team Poland) 🌟 Iweta Rajlich (8-time Polish Women’s Champion, former top 25 in the world) 🌟 Alina Kaszlinska (Polish Women’s Champion, former Women’s European Champion) ✨The Chair of the Commission, Anastasia Sorokina, as well as FIDE Secretary General Łukasz Turlej, attended the last edition of the Festival, and it was then that the idea for this collaboration was born.
