OIC Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Afghanistan Meets EU Acting Special Envoy for Afghanistan OIC Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Afghanistan, H.E. Amb. Tarig Ali Bakheet today Monday 19 May 2024 held, on the margins of the EU humanitarian forum in Brussels, discussions with the EU’s Acting Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Mrs. Deren Derya. At the meeting, the OIC Special Envoy briefed the EU on the OIC's work carried out in Afghanistan under his mandate and thanked the EU for its efforts in supporting the people of Afghanistan. The meeting explored the importance of joint action for the benefit and development of the Afghan people.

H. E. the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, delivering his speech at the 34th session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the Summit level in Baghdad today, Saturday, 17 May 2025.
The Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs of the OIC Meets with the Director-General of the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) Within the framework of his participation in the EU Humanitarian Forum taking place in Brussels, Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakheet, Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, had a meeting with H.E. Mr. Maciej Popowski, Director-General of the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO), on 19 May 2025, in the presence of their respective accompanying delegations. They reviewed the bilateral cooperation between the OIC and the EU in the humanitarian domain and explored new avenues of cooperation. Both sides also exchanged views on the humanitarian situation in some OIC countries and discussed the ways and means to better support those countries.
At the EU humanitarian forum in Brussels: OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs participates in a panel on the food crisis in Sahel During his intervention at the panel on food crisis in Sahel and Lake Chad Basin within the framework of the Fourth European Humanitarian Forum, the OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakhit stated that all countries in the concerned regions are members of the OIC, and therefore, the humanitarian situation remains a top priority on the agenda; and through the regional office in Niger, the Organization managed to implement different humanitarian projects. Amb. Tarig mentioned that in October 2024, the OIC, in coordination with King Salaman Humanitarian and Relief Center, UNHCR, and OCHA, organized the donors conference for the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin countries. During the conference, donor countries and organizations pledged over one billion dollars. Amb. Tarig stressed that the OIC and its member states & institutions will continue their sincere efforts to support the countries of the region in addressing different humanitarian challenges.
The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), represented by the Information Department, participated in the media events organized by the Strategic Vision Group - Russia and the Islamic World and TatMedia in the Republic of #Tatarstan, Russian Federation, on 15-16 May 2025. This event was part of the 16th International Economic Forum "#Russia - Islamic World (#Kazan Forum)," held at the International Exhibition Center in Kazan, the capital city of the Republic of Tatarstan, from 13 to 18 May 2025. The Acting Director of the Information Department Dr. Abdelhamid Salhi, made a presentation on the OIC's media action, particularly the production of media content for social media networks, at the Kazan theater; a presentation on media of the future in the present: content and technologies, during the session dedicated to media institutions; and another presentation at Kazan Federal University on the topic of youth as a target audience for media in OIC countries. The presentations during the sessions emphasized the OIC's media efforts, particularly those related to optimal investment in social media, content production, and leveraging the Artificial intelligence capabilities of the youth.
