The great movement was influenced by the founding Director of National Gallery of Zimbabwe, Frank McEwen at the Gallery Workshop and influenced the artists freewill to create his own art and style . From Tengenenge a tobacco farmer Tom Bloemfield went on to promote art and offered sculptors with housing and resources to carry their work . Great artists were produced from this movement . These artists sold their sculptures all over the world and exhibited throughout. Nicholas Mukomberanwa, Henry Munyaradzi ,Takawira Brothers , Joram Mariga ,Sylvester Mubayi , Nyanhongo family etc were some of the successful and influential artists from the first generation of sculptors.
