Government of Uganda has allocated 1.3 Trillion Shillings this financial year to finance sports infrastructure development in the country in preparation for the 2027 Africa cup of nations finals that Uganda will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania. At the 2025/26 national budget presentation, Finance Minister Matia Kasaija indicated that the government spent 496.8bn last year on the construction of Hoima and Akii Bua stadiums. The money also went into putting up various training grounds. This is also in preparation for the upcoming CHAN tournament, due in August this year. https://bit.ly/44czURz

Uganda’s national budget for the Financial Year 2025/26, presented at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, has once again fallen short of key continental commitments to prioritize critical sectors such as health, education, and agriculture. Despite pledges under frameworks like the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP), the Abuja Declaration, and the Dakar and Maputo commitments—which call for allocating at least 10% to agriculture, 15% to health, and 20% to education and agriculture combined—the country’s allocations remain below these benchmarks. The shortfall has raised renewed concerns over Uganda’s ability to meet its development goals and improve the well-being of its population. https://bit.ly/3SPg0Wt
