The Trump administration’s assault on the US Agency for International Development (USAID) went far beyond budget cuts. It’s a dangerous attack on vital international aid and global safety, writes Vox’s Dylan Matthews.
From purging staff to potentially dissolving the agency entirely, this isn’t just a policy move. It’s a blatant disregard for the law. The president cannot legally refuse to spend money that Congress has directed the government to spend.
Along the way, Trump ally and the world’s richest man Elon Musk has made groundless and deranged institutions that the agency is little more than a pit of corruption, so it’s important to remember the work that the agency does (or did) to save millions of lives to date: https://voxdotcom.visitlink.me/OZ8Etd
