External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said Centre is engaging with US govt to ensure that deportees are not ill-treated. “It’s the obligation of all countries to take back their nationals if found to be living illegally abroad,” Jaishankar said. “The standard operating procedure for deportation by aircraft provides for the use of restraints. However, we have been informed that #women and #children are not restrained,” he said. "People are running from the country, how is ministry ensuring that people do not run away from a failing economy," said TMC MP Saket Gokhale in Rajya Sabha. "When they came back, why couldn’t you respect them, why were they taken in Haryana’s prisoner van?" asked AAP's Sanjay Singh.
