Weatherman's Day "commemorates the birth of John Jeffries, one of first weatherman". Jeffries was born on Feb 5, 1744. He kept weather records from 1774 to 1816. Weatherman's Day honors weathermen who work hard to accurately predict the often-fickle weather. Every year we honor one of our own standout personalities in Weather. In the past we remembered our renowned meteorologist at IMD and other departments

2025 - Dr.B.Amudha
This year 2025 we honor Dr. B. Amudha - Scientist-E & Head, Aerodrome Meteorological Office, Regional Meteorological Centre, IMD Chennai
Dr. B. Amudha is currently the Head of the Aerodrome Meteorological Office at IMD, Chennai. She obtained her Doctorate in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Madras. Her doctoral thesis brought out the characteristics of Indian northeast monsoon using INSAT satellite derived products and Doppler Weather Radar data. She was the Project Director for commissioning 550 Automatic Weather Stations in IMD with her expertise in surface meteorological observational instrumentation.
She received the WMO Prof. Vilho Vaisala Award-2016 for developing countries in September 2016, for the contribution on “Alternatives for dangerous and obsolete instruments” when she was a member of the WMO Expert Team for Regional Instruments Centres, Calibration and Traceability during 2010-14. She has 18 research papers in peer reviewed journals and over 23 publications in national and international conferences.
The award is in recognition of the technical report WMO – Instruments and Observing Methods (IOM) Report No.117. The report enables a WMO Member country to determine where it stands in relation to other WMO Members in regard to its use of dangerous or obsolete instrumentation, and offers some ideas on how to replace these instruments by suggesting possible alternatives.
My wishes to other Weather bloggers on this special day
