New Report Highlights Human Rights Concerns in Kenya's Digital Space
Our joint report with the Association for Progressive Communications (APC) examines key human rights issues in Kenya's digital landscape.
Key findings include:
Limited Digital Inclusion: 📶 Despite a 56% internet penetration rate, significant digital divides persist, particularly affecting women 👩 and marginalized groups.
Restrictions on Freedom of Expression:
🗣️ Concerns remain regarding the misuse of laws to restrict online speech, including the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act.
Surveillance Concerns: 🕵️♂️ Permissive surveillance laws and weak oversight raise concerns about government monitoring of citizens online.
Rise of TFGBV: 🚫 The report highlights the prevalence of technology-facilitated gender-based violence, with women 👩 disproportionately affected.
The report calls upon the Kenyan government to:
