Women and Black professionals, already underrepresented (26.7% and 4% respectively), are facing even greater barriers as major companies dismantle DEI initiatives. This trend fuels stereotypes of incompetence, perpetuating pay gaps—women earn $0.82 for every dollar earned by men, while Black employees earn 17% less than their white peers. Such narratives mirror South Africa’s “swart gevaar,” stoking anti-diversity sentiments under the guise of meritocracy. Data shows diversity drives innovation and profitability.
