කෝලම් නැටුම් (කෝලම් මදුවා) කෝලම් යනු ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ බටහිර හා නිරිතදිග වෙරළබඩ ප්‍රදේශවල සාම්ප්‍රදායික ජන නාට්‍යයකි. ආරම්භයේ සිට අද දක්වා සාම්ප්‍රදායික කෝලම් නැටුම් ඉදිරිපත් කරන අරියපාල විජේසූරිය අංක පවුලේ සමහර පවුල් අතර කෝලම් වෙස් මුහුණු වෙති. පුරාවෘත්තයන්ට අනුව, කෝලම් වෙස් මුහුණු බිහිවූයේ මිනිසාගේ පළමු රජු වූ මහා සම්මාතා රජුගේ කාලයේ සිට ය. මෙම රැජිනගේ රැජින ගැබ්ගෙන ඇති අතර වෙස් නැටුම් සඳහා දැඩි ආශාවක් ඇයට දැනුනි. නමුත් එය සිදු කරන්නේ කෙසේදැයි කිසිවෙකු දැන නොසිටි අතර රැජින වැඩි වැඩියෙන් දුක් වින්දා. අවසාන වශයෙන් සක්රා දෙවියන් ඇය ගැන සැලකිලිමත් වන අතර එවැනි නර්තනයන් සඳහා වෙස් මුහුණු සහ පද රචනා කරන ලෙස විශ්වකර්ම (ශිල්පීන්ගේ දෙවියන් )ගෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටියේය. පසුදා උදෑසන විශ්වකර්ම දෙවියන් විසින් සපයන ලද වෙස් මුහුණු සහ පද රාජකීය උයනේ තිබී හමු විය. රජුගේ නියෝගයෙන් පසු රැජින ඉදිරිපිට වෙස් නැටුම් ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලදී. එවිට ඇය මහත් සතුටට හා තෘප්තියට පත් වූ අතර ඇගේ ගර්භණී තෘෂ්ණාව අතුරුදහන් විය. මෙම මිථ්‍යා දෘෂ්ටිකෝණයෙන් කියැවෙන්නේ සෑම කෝලාම් නැටුමකින් එන චරිත දෙකක් පැළඳ සිටින වෙස්මුහුණු රජු සහ රැජිනයි. නමුත් කෝලම් නැටුමෙන් පුරාවෘත්තීය අංග පමණක් නොව සාම්ප්‍රදායික සිංහල සමාජයේ ජීවිතයද රාජකීය සේවකයින්ගේ විවිධ කථා වලින් නිරූපණය කෙරේ. කෝලම් වෙස්මුහුණු අතර පනික්කලා, නොන්චි අක්ක, හේවා, ජාසයා, ලෙන්චිනා, මුදලි වැනි චරිත සඳහා ප්‍රමුඛත්වය දෙනු ලැබේ. KOLAM DANCES ( KOLAM MADUWA) Kolama Kolam is a traditional folk play in the west and in the south-west coastal regions in Sri Lanka. Masks are utilized in Kolam called as kolam masks ‘Ariyapala Wijesuriya’ family is one of the families among few groups who perform traditional kolam dances from the beginning till today. According to the mythologies, kolam masks were originated from the period of King Maha Sammatha, the first King of human beings. The queen of this King was pregnant and she felt a strong desire to see mask-dances. But no one knew how to perform it and queen suffered more and more. Finally God Sakra concern about her and asked God Vishvakarma (God of craftsmen) to provide the masks and the lyrics for such dance. Next morning the masks and verses provided by God Vishvakarma were found in the royal garden. After King’s order mask dances were performed in front of the queen.Then she was highly pleased and satisfied, and her pregnancy cravings disappeared. This mythological aspect is referred to in every Kolam dance by arriving two characters wearing masks of King and Queen. But the Kolam dance depicts not only mythological aspects but also the aspects of lives in traditional Sinhalese society by performing various stories of royal servants. Among the Kolam mask, prominence is given to characters like Panikkala, Nonchi akka, Hewa, Jasaya, Lenchina, Mudali, etc.
