Hypocalcemia, not hypercalcemia, is seen in tumor lysis syndrome (TLS). TLS is a potentially life-threatening condition characterized by the rapid destruction of a large number of tumor cells. The release of calcium phosphate from lysed cells contributes to hyperphosphatemia and subsequent reciprocal depression in serum calcium levels.
