*Innovative Strategies to Enhance SSLC Exam Performance in Karnataka*
Pass percentages significantly declined following stringent invigilation measures last year. Therefore, Karnataka's Department of Education and Literacy has introduced innovative programs to improve student outcomes in March's upcoming Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations.
Key Initiatives Implemented:
1. One-Day-One-Mark Program: This initiative encourages students to master one question daily, promoting consistent study habits and a thorough understanding of individual topics.
2. Buddy Learning System: Students are paired to study together, fostering collaborative learning. This peer-to-peer approach enhances comprehension and builds confidence through mutual support.
3. Active Involvement of Zilla Panchayat CEOs: The CEOs of the respective Zilla panchayats directly interact with students by conducting classes and motivating educators to extend additional support.
4. Special Classes and Mock Tests: A series of special classes and mock examinations has been organized to give students ample practice and identify areas requiring further attention.
5. Utilization of On-Campus Resources: With free electricity to government schools, institutions are optimizing campus facilities to conduct extended study sessions, reducing the need for external tuition classes.
Minister Madhu Bangarappa emphasized the importance of these initiatives, stating that CEOs' active participation in teaching and the motivation provided to teachers are pivotal in driving these efforts. He highlighted that free electricity has enabled schools to utilize their campuses more effectively for special classes, thereby minimizing students' reliance on external tuition.
A notable example is the Yadgir district, where the one-day-one-mark program was implemented. In this approach, students concentrate on thoroughly understanding and mastering one question each day. Additionally, the buddy learning system pairs students together, facilitating collaborative study sessions that benefit both participants.
To maintain the integrity of the examinations, the department has mandated webcasting at all exam centers, ensuring strict monitoring and transparency. Minister Bangarappa affirmed that while various supportive measures are being adopted, the integrity of the examinations will not be compromised.
The department has also released a comprehensive pamphlet that provides students with strategic study tips, highlights key portions to focus on, and details the marking scheme. This guide offers advice on effective study techniques, memorization methods, and the creation of personalized timetables. It also includes a recommended 24-hour schedule, advising students on activities from waking up at 5 a.m. to retiring at 11 p.m., and suggestions for maintaining health and a balanced diet.
Looking ahead, the department plans to launch the 'Skills at School' program, which aims to impart practical skills to students during school hours and enhance their overall educational experience.
Regarding the policy on grace marks, the department has clarified that the additional 10% grace marks granted to SSLC students last year will not be continued. However, discussions are ongoing to determine the future of the existing grace-mark system designed to assist borderline students in passing the examination.
These comprehensive measures reflect the department's commitment to improving educational outcomes and supporting students in achieving success in their SSLC examinations.
