Commonly Confused English Words 🇬🇧 1️⃣ Affect vs. Effect • Affect (verb) = to influence 👉 The weather can affect your mood. • Effect (noun) = the result of something 👉 The new law had a positive effect on the economy. 2️⃣ Lose vs. Loose • Lose (verb) = to misplace or not win 👉 Don’t lose your keys! • Loose (adjective) = not tight 👉 My shoes are too loose. 3️⃣ Then vs. Than • Then (adverb) = refers to time 👉 I’ll eat dinner, then go for a walk. • Than (conjunction) = used for comparisons 👉 I’m taller than my brother. 4️⃣ Borrow vs. Lend • Borrow (verb) = to take something for a short time 👉 Can I borrow your pen? • Lend (verb) = to give something temporarily 👉 I can lend you my book.
