✔️ Battery EVs have a higher energy efficiency, converting around 80% of electricity into motion, compared to only 30–40% for hydrogen fuel cells due to energy losses in hydrogen production, transport, and conversion. BEVs also benefit from an existing charging infrastructure and continued improvements in battery technology. However, lithium-ion battery production has significant environmental impacts, including mining for lithium, cobalt, and nickel, which raises concerns over resource depletion and ecological harm.

✔️ Hydrogen Fuel Cells offer fast refueling times and longer ranges, making them attractive for heavy-duty transport. They emit only water vapor, but producing hydrogen sustainably remains a challenge. The dominant method—steam methane reforming—releases CO₂, while electrolysis using renewable energy is still costly and inefficient. Additionally, hydrogen storage and distribution require complex infrastructure.

✔️ Overall, BEVs are currently more sustainable due to better efficiency and a lower carbon footprint. However, advancements in green hydrogen production and fuel cell technology could improve HFCs’ viability. The best solution may involve a mix of both technologies, with BEVs for passenger transport and HFCs for heavy industries and long-haul applications.
