Mnangagwa says together, under the watch, of his government, the private sector and the communities he urges Zimbabweans to move forward hand in hand; in peace and unity; with one common objective, that the country shall be a beacon of prosperity which shines brighter and brighter. “No amount of economic chicanery, mudslinging and discord should be allowed or entertained to derail our irreversible course to modernise, industrialise and develop our country. We are marching forward ever, backwards never.” “I call upon you, my fellow citizens in all the four corners of our country and those spread across the diaspora to pull in one direction as one people for the achievement of our national aspirations. We have this duty, not only for the present generations but the future as well,” he says. He made the sentiments while addressing mourners during the burial of national hero Tinaye Chigudu whom he described as a selfless cadre. “Our late National Hero, Cde Chigudu, was among many brave, selfless sons & daughters of the soil who took a stand and fought for our Independence. “He is honoured as one of the first combatants to be sent for training in North Korea under the ZIPRA, the military wing of ZAPU. “During that period, he undertook ‘risky and critical mission tasks’ which helped to gather information regarding the modus operandi of the racist Rhodesian forces.” Chigudu passed away on 5 February 2025, at his home in Harare, after a long battle with cancer. He was 82. Chigudu, whose nom de guerre was Cde Tinaye Mutete, was born on 13 August 1942, in Chigudu Village, Manicaland Province. Apparently, the country is divided over his party Zanu PF’s plans to amend the Constitution to allow him to rule beyond his term limit which ends in 2028. Mnangagwa is on record saying he won’t extend his term limit, but he stands accused of letting his foot-soldiers push the agenda under his nose. *_-ZwNews_* 2. *CHAMISA READY TO LAUNCH DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT TO DISLODGE ZANU PF* Citizens across Zimbabwe are mobilizing in anticipation of Nelson Chamisa’s forthcoming announcement of the formation of a new and powerful democratic movement, says Amos Chibaya. Chibaya who is Chamisa’s organising chief, says this initiative is aimed at dismantling the entrenched power of Zanu PF, the ruling party that has dominated Zimbabwean politics for decades through rigging, intimidation and violence. At the center of this political renaissance is the youthful President Chamisa, aged 47, reports Change Radio. Known for his charisma and eloquence, he has an unparalleled ability to draw large crowds to his rallies and meetings. Whether he walks through bustling towns, serene villages, or crowded streets, he is often surrounded by enthusiastic supporters, eager to hear his vision for a better Zimbabwe. His popularity was evident in the 2018 and 2023 harmonized elections, where he garnered over two million votes, decisively defeating Zanu PF. Despite this, both elections were marred by allegations of electoral fraud, leading many observers to deem them neither free nor fair. Zanu PF, in a bid to undermine President Chamisa’s influence, created various proxy political entities, such as Sengezo Tshabangu and Douglas Mwonzora. These figures were tasked with fragmenting the opposition, particularly targeting the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), which emerged as a response to Zanu PF’s tactics. After assessing the political landscape, President Chamisa made the strategic decision to leave the CCC, paving the way for the announcement of a new political movement in 2025. In the wake of this political shift, citizens are taking it upon themselves to support President Chamisa’s vision for transformation. Honourable Amos Chibaya recently convened a pivotal meeting with ward coordinators in Harare. This gathering served as a platform to educate coordinators on their roles and strategize mobilization efforts. The meeting was well-attended, reflecting the deep commitment of the attendees to the cause. In an interview with Change Radio, Honourable Chibaya expressed the optimism resonating within the movement: “We are waiting for a signal from our President Chamisa about the way forward, and citizens are ready to follow him. President Chamisa is the face of our democratic struggle, and we believe in his capable leadership. This program for ward coordinators will be implemented across all provinces.” More so, on Saturday, Honourable Gift Ostallos Siziba also contributed to the grassroots mobilization efforts by addressing citizens in the rural areas of Rushinga, Mashonaland Central. He utilized social media to share updates about the campaign, stating, “Deep in Rushinga, we are spreading the message of Change, led by President Chamisa.” Further more, in Gutu Central on Saturday, Honourable Matthew Takaona engaged local citizens, urging them to unite and strategize for the upcoming political challenges. He emphasized the urgent need for effective leadership, saying, “Zimbabweans are suffering; they need a leader- President Chamisa with God’s grace to turn around this country.” The movement isn’t limited to male leaders; women are also playing a crucial role. In Mwenezi, Mrs. Vembo, a prominent female leader from Masvingo urban, organized meetings with rural women who support President Chamisa. Her efforts have spanned several districts, including Chivi and Gutu, where she has empowered women to take an active role in the political process. *_-ZwNews_* 3. *US-BASED NIGERIAN DOCTOR COMMITS SUICIDE AFTER COURT ORDERS HIM TO PAY US$15,000 MAINTENANCE TO HIS EX-WIFE* News surfaced that 36-year-old Dr. Ikenna Erinne, a US-based Nigerian cardiologist, allegedly died by suicide. This followed a court ruling that mandated him to pay US$15,000 per month in child support to his ex-wife. According to reports, Dr Erinne took his life on Sunday, January 26, 2025, after a prolonged and contentious divorce battle with his estranged wife. The legal dispute involved custody of their children, culminating in a court order that imposed significant financial obligations on the doctor. Sources revealed that Dr Erinne was devastated by the court’s decision, which not only resulted in a hefty child support payment but also caused him to lose his medical license. Clayton Udo, a Nigerian-American and self-described expert in psychological and mental abuse, confirmed the tragic incident in a Facebook post. Udo highlighted the financial and emotional toll the case had taken on Dr. Erinne, citing the ruling as a critical factor that led to the doctor’s untimely death. “Dr. Ikenna Erinne’s story is a heart breaking reminder of the challenges African men face in the United States. He was driven to despair after spending thousands of dollars in legal fees, only to be ordered to pay $15,000 monthly in child support and lose his medical license.” His death has sparked conversations about mental health, systemic challenges within the legal system, and the emotional toll of prolonged divorce proceedings. Obim Onujiogu, a member of the Nigerian-American community, also confirmed Dr Erinne’s passing on social media, describing him as a compassionate healer and a dedicated family man. “In Loving Memory of Dr. Ikenna C. Erinne. He was a beloved father, son, brother, and a well-respected cardiologist. His sudden passing is a great loss to all who knew him,” Onujiogu wrote. Dr Erinne’s family announced that a memorial service would be held at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home in Elkridge, Maryland, on Monday, February 3, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by interment at Meadowridge Memorial Park. Dr Erinne is survived by his two children, Ugonna and Munachi, as well as his parents, Engr. Chris and Mrs. Chinwe Erinne, and his siblings, Chuks, Onyi, Kenny, and Gechi. *_-B-Metro_* 4. *MISUNDERSTANDING OVER COURTING A WOMAN TURNS NASTY AS WORKMATE STABS ANOTHER* A dispute between workmates over a rude comment turned nasty after a man from Bulawayo allegedly stabbed his workmate with a sharp object several times. Munashe Chitavati pleaded not guilty to the charge of attempted murder before Bulawayo regional magistrate Matthew Mutiro. He was remanded to Friday for continuation of trial. During trial, the victim, Titus Katumbure indicated that the dispute was a result of the message that he relayed to the accused. “While we were drinking, the accused tried wooing a lady but he failed. I went and told him that Peter had said that he had failed to woo the lady because he was illiterate and stupid and this angered him. The fight was initially between Peter and the accused person,” he said. Allegations against Chitavati are that on 8 December 2024 at a school in Paddonhurst suburb, he had a misunderstanding with Katumbure. He advanced towards the victim intending to hit him, Katumbure pushed Chitavati. The suspect stabbed the victim with a sharp instrument once below the right armpit, once on the stomach and once on his groin. The matter was reported to the police and investigations were carried out leading to the arrest of the culprit. Katumbure was referred to Mpilo Hospital for medical examination and a medical report was produced in court as evidence. *_-B-Metro_* 5. *FATHER SHOT DEAD AT MURDERED SON’S FUNERAL IN SOUTH AFRICA* A South African father was shot dead at his son’s funeral in Ravensmead, Cape Town, on Saturday morning, reported IOL. The son, known as Brampie, was murdered on Wednesday last week. Shortly after the father’s killing, the community members beat the shooter to death. A community member said two shooters had approached the 54-year-old man while he stood next to his son’s coffin at Beverly Court. He said: _One of them went back to make sure that the father was dead, and that is when he was caught by the community members._ _He was beaten with stanchion steel posts and also pelted with slabs. The community is fed up with the nonsense that is happening in the area._ The resident added that the deceased shooter was on trial for murder and required to live outside the area due to bail conditions. Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed the separate murder cases which occurred on Saturday at 8:45 AM at Beverly Court, Ravensmead. He said: _A 54-year-old man was shot and fatally wounded by a 26-year-old man. The alleged shooter was beaten to death at the scene of the incident. The motive is believed to be gang-related._ Van Wyk said that, according to reports, the deceased was shot by the suspect and fatally wounded with a gunshot to the back of his head while attending his son’s funeral at the specified address. He added: _The suspect then ran away but was chased and apprehended by the community who attended the funeral and was beaten to death._ Ravensmead Community Policing Forum spokesperson Lucian Davids expressed dismay over the tragic occurrence of two deaths at the funeral. Said Davids: _The perpetrator was caught by members present, disarmed, and beaten to death. These are the two bodies in the video that has circulated on the internet this morning._ _Historically, this is the first incident of this nature, and as Ravensmead CPF, we condemn in the strongest terms this terrible precedent. It is an unspeakable act to do while someone is being laid to rest._ _This does not inspire confidence in families, crime is creeping much closer to our personal spaces and creates conditions where the community is forced to act outside of legal bounds._ _We request that SAPS respond swiftly as it has displayed over time in the community. We await the details of the case, for the sake of our community. We are shocked, terrified, and disappointed by this._ *_-Pindula_* 6. *CHIVHU WOMAN ORDERED TO PAY US$2,786 FOR ILLEGAL WATER CONNECTION* A 65-year-old Chivhu resident has been ordered to pay nearly US$2 800 to the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) after being convicted for illegally bypassing her water metre and accessing water for free for over a decade. Maud Funhiro was sentenced to 12 months in jail at the Chivhu Magistrates Court (Case CHIVP41/25) but the entire sentence was suspended on conditions including full restitution to ZINWA by May 30, 2025. The court heard that Funhiro illegally diverted water from the ZINWA system into her home, fowl run and garden since 2014, avoiding payments for her usage. The scheme was uncovered during a ZINWA operation aimed at reducing non-revenue water in Chivhu. The magistrate suspended four months of her sentence for five years, provided she does not commit a similar offence during that period. The remaining months were suspended on the condition that she repays the full amount owed. In a statement, ZINWA’s head of corporate communications and marketing Mrs Marjorie Munyonga commended the public for assisting in uncovering illegal water usage and urged citizens to report any suspected cases. The case served as a warning to others who may be illegally accessing water, as authorities intensify efforts to curb such activities and recover lost revenue. *_-Herald_* 7. *HARARE MAN KILLS HIS OWN MOTHER* A Westgate man on Saturday slashed his mother to death at their Sandton Park house. The man lived with his two nieces, aged 12 and 13, and an elderly woman at their family home. A family member, who requested anonymity, told B-Metro that the man, who cannot be named for ethical reasons, began sexually assaulting the girls in November last year. A source close to the investigation said that on 10 November last year, while the elderly woman was in town, the man allegedly dragged the 12-year-old girl into his bedroom and threatened to stab her. He then allegedly forced her to undress and sexually assaulted her. The source said that afterwards, whenever the elderly woman was away, he would call the girl to his bedroom and repeat the assault. In December, he began assaulting his other niece, reportedly fondling her breasts before also sexually assaulting her. He continued these assaults whenever the elderly woman was out of the house, repeatedly threatening to stab the girls if they told anyone. The minors did not disclose the abuse until their aunt, who lives in Britain, visited Zimbabwe in December. Noticing their suspicious behaviour, the aunt questioned them, and they finally revealed their uncle’s abuse. The matter was reported to the police, leading to the man’s arrest. Childline was also notified, and the two girls were subsequently placed in a foster home in Belmont. Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident and advised parents not to leave their children in the care of male relatives. “It is worrying that some men, entrusted to care for their relatives’ children in the absence of the guardians, end up sexually abusing them. Therefore, parents should take their children with them to avoid any potential sexual abuse,” said Asst Insp Msebele. *_-B-Metro_*
