*Bedtime story*
In a small village in Africa, nestled between lush hills and flowing rivers, there lived an elderly woman named Ama. Known for her wisdom and kindness, she was often sought after for advice by the villagers. Her small hut was always open to anyone in need, whether they sought food, a warm bed, or simply a listening ear.
One day, a severe drought hit the region. The crops failed, and water became scarce. The villagers were anxious, unsure of how they would survive the coming months. In the midst of this hardship, Ama's hut remained full of visitors—people from every corner of the village, all looking for help. Despite her own struggles, Ama continued to offer what little she had.
One day, a young boy named Kwame came to Ama with his empty bowl. He had not eaten for two days. Ama looked at him and smiled, motioning for him to sit with her. She took out a small portion of her rice—just enough for one meal—and began to share it with Kwame.
Kwame, feeling embarrassed, said, "Ama, you have so little, and yet you are sharing it with me. Why?"
Ama looked at him gently and replied, "My child, if I only keep what I have, it will never be enough. But if I share, I will not only feed you, but I will also feed my soul. We are all connected. When one of us suffers, we all suffer. But when one of us gives, we all are blessed."
Kwame, moved by her words, took the rice gratefully, but he did something unexpected. The next day, he returned to Ama, bringing with him a small bundle of dried herbs that his mother had gathered. He shared them with Ama, saying, "I thought you might need these more than I do."
Ama smiled, and over time, more and more villagers began to share what little they had—some shared food, others shared water, and some simply offered their time to help those who were weaker.
As the weeks passed, the drought began to ease, and the rains returned. The crops grew, and the river flowed once more. The villagers were able to harvest enough food to last them through the year, but more importantly, they had learned the power of sharing.
Ama, through her simple acts of kindness, had taught the entire village that no matter how little we have, we always have something to offer. And when we share, we not only help others, but we also build a stronger, more compassionate community.
From that day forward, the villagers carried Ama's lesson with them: **“When we share, we all thrive.”**
