📌 Iron Deficiency: Not the Sole Cause of Anaemia in India? 📍 What’s the News? A new study challenges the belief that iron deficiency is the primary cause of anaemia in India. Other factors, like Vitamin B12 deficiency, air pollution, and unmeasured causes, play a significant role. 📌 Key Findings ✅ Only 9% of anaemia cases were due to iron deficiency, while 22% were from unknown causes. ✅ Anaemia prevalence remains high:   -41.1% in women (15–49 years).   -44.3% in adolescent girls, a drop from 62.6% (NFHS-5), likely due to improved blood collection methods. 📍 Why It Matters? The study highlights the need for better-targeted policy interventions beyond iron supplementation to address anaemia effectively.
