*📰 SC Strikes Down Residence - Based Quota for PG Medical Seat (HIGHLIGHTS OF ORDER)*
👇👇👇
📍 _New Delhi, Jan 29, 2025: In a major ruling, the Supreme Court of India has declared residence-based reservations for PG medical admissions unconstitutional. 🚫🏥_
* *Case:* Dr. Tanvi Behl v. Shrey Goel & Others
* *Issue:* Chandigarh reserved 64 PG medical seats for local residents & MBBS graduates from its only Govt. Medical College.
* *Verdict:* Reservation based on residence is invalid ❌
* _But Institutional preference (MBBS from same college) is allowed to a reasonable extent ✅_
*⚖ Key Observations from SC Order:*
📌 *Only One Domicile: Resident of India:* No State- Based Domicile for PG admissions.
📌 *Merit matters:* Specialization demands the best talent, regional preference cannot override it.
📌 What stays? 👨⚕️👩⚕️ Students already admitted under the now-invalid quota can continue their courses.
(i.e. already admitted Students Unaffected)
🎯 Impact:
🔸 Chandigarh’s quota system partially scrapped: 32 seats now open to all via NEET merit!
🔸 This ruling may affect similar reservation policies in other states.
