*Zimbabwe’s chase falters at 38/3 against determined Irish bowling*
_Zimbabwe requires 254 runs after top order collapse_
BULAWAYO – Zimbabwe faces a daunting task to chase 254 runs with seven wickets in hand after Ireland set a stiff target at stumps on Day 3 of the Only Test at Queens Sports Club.
The hosts closed the day on 38/3 in 15 overs, with Brian Bennett unbeaten on 15 and Trevor Gwandu yet to score. Ireland's bowlers, led by Matthew Humphreys, who dismissed Nicholas Welch, kept the pressure on Zimbabwe's top order.
Earlier, Ireland posted 298 in their second innings, thanks to Lorcan Tucker’s composed 58 and contributions from skipper Andy Balbirnie, who scored a steady 66. With the ball, Zimbabwe’s Richard Ngarava was instrumental, finishing with figures of 4/55.
Zimbabwe’s first innings saw a resilient 267, highlighted by Nicholas Welch’s 90 and a gritty 47 from Muzarabani.
With two days remaining, Zimbabwe will need a monumental effort to pull off a victory or secure a draw on a challenging pitch favoring the bowlers.
