*Zimbabwe's Shutt finishes runner-up at Africa Amateur Championship*
Mpumalanga -- Zimbabwe’s 18-year-old golf sensation Keegan Shutt narrowly missed out on the Africa Amateur Championship title, finishing two shots behind South Africa’s Bryan Newman at Leopard Creek.
Newman, 17, claimed an impressive two-shot victory with an eight-under-par total of 280, earning exemptions to The Open at Royal Portrush and other major tournaments. “It feels really amazing,” said Newman. “Winning here at Leopard Creek makes it even more special.”
Shutt mounted a late charge with four birdies on the back nine but was undone by a triple-bogey on the par-3 seventh. “I don’t think I’m going to forget that triple for a while,” said Shutt. “But I’m happy with how I fought back. Well done to Bryan—he finished strong.”
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe’s Tanaka Chatora shone early, firing a remarkable seven-under-par 65 in the opening round, which included two eagles and five birdies. However, he struggled in the later rounds, finishing with a total of 296.
Zimbabwe’s Michael Wallace and Darlington Chikanyambidze finished 28th and tied 29th, respectively.
The Africa Amateur Championship, set against the stunning Kruger National Park backdrop, continues to provide a platform for Africa’s rising golfing talent, with Rolex as a key partner spotlighting excellence in the sport.
