Donald Trump's proposal to expel millions of Palestinians from Gaza follows years of interventions favouring the Israeli rightwing.
In the history of Trump’s interventions in the Arab-Israeli conflict, a clear pattern has emerged. Where he could overturn long-standing US positions by edict alone, they were done quickly. But ideas that required working with Palestinians to build consensus, and forcing Israelis to make concessions, died on the vine.
