Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Vidhushekhara Bharati Mahaswamiji graced Banaras Hindu University. BHU was founded with the divine presence of the Sacred Padukas of the 32nd Sringeri Jagadguru Shankaracharya. In the early 20th century, Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya sought the blessings of Sri Sacchidananda Shivabhinava Nrisimha Bharati Mahaswamiji, the 33rd Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Sri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri to grace Varanasi and lay the foundation of the proposed Banaras Hindu University. However, the scheduled date of the event left insufficient time for the Mahaswamiji to travel such a long distance. As a divine gesture, He instead sent the sacred Padukas of His revered Guru, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Nrisimha Bharati Mahaswamiji, to sanctify the foundation ceremony.
