A reminder of how it wasn't an easy ride for Nigel Mansell into F1: despite some excellent Lotus drives in 1980, nothing was solid for 1981. Here's a Telex I sent to Honda on his behalf, late in 1980, trying to keep the doors open for a full F2 deal. I was working for Autocar at the time!
