‘Jayaa Ekadashi’ Katha 🍃 ShriHari Mandir (Porbandar) is celebrating this Jayā Ekādaśī fast on Saturday 08February, 2025 🍃King Yuddhiṣṭira asks Śrī Krṣṇa the name and significance of the eleventh lunar day, which occurs in the bright fortnight of the month of Māgha (Māgha Śukla Ekādaśī). 🍃 Dvārikādhīśa Śrī Krṣṇa states that the name of this auspicious day is ‘Jayā Ekādaśī—which grants all material and spiritual fulfillment. It is extremely purifying and relieves one of the sin of ‘killing’ (physically or verbally insulting) a Brāhmin, and also liberates one from the wretched state of living as a demon or ‘pisāca’. 🍃 Once, the King of Heaven wished to enjoy a grand song and dance festival, and arrived with his large retinue of heavenly damsels (apsarās) and Gandharvas in the garden called ‘Nandanavana’. 🍃In this grand festival, there were three pre-eminent “Gandharvas” (a celestial class of beautiful beings with a gift for music) of Heaven who were singing in the sweetest of voices: 1) Citrasena, 2) his son Mālyavāna and 3) Puśpadanta 🍃The daughter of Gandharva Puśpadanta was also present and—besotted in their mutual attraction for one another—Mālyavāna and Puśpavanti lost track of rhythm and melody and the music and dance kept halting due to their distraction. This obstruction was an insult of the King’s command. 🍃The King of Heaven disciplined them for this lack of discipline and decorum, and cursed them to a life as lowly beings of flesh-eating, blood-drinking demons (pisāca).
