The disturbing video, which went viral in January, shows the man kicking and beating the crocodile and hitting it multiple times in the mouth with a slasher. The suspect, who called himself the "King of Crocodile," was arrested on Thursday afternoon during a joint operation involving the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the NSPCA. Jacques Peacock, a spokesperson for the NSPCA, stated, "This arrest is a significant step in holding animal abusers accountable, especially those who commit such terrible acts for social media fame." Upon learning about the video, the NSPCA quickly launched an investigation. They gathered evidence that led them to the suspect in Duthuni, a village near Thohoyandou in Limpopo. After weeks of hard work, National Inspector White, with support from the SAPS and the Louis Trichardt SPCA, successfully arrested the man. He now faces charges under the Animals Protection Act of 1962. Peacock noted that the suspect will stay in police custody and is expected to appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrate's Court on Monday, February 17, 2025. The NSPCA expressed concern about the increasing number of animal cruelty acts being filmed and shared on social media for entertainment. They urged South Africans to treat all animals with respect. -IOL
