By Yeukai Karengezeka, The Herald – A National Blood Service Zimbabwe (NBSZ) employee has been convicted of forgery and will perform 630 hours of community service.
Trymore Jairos (26) pleaded guilty to four counts of forgery when he appeared before Harare Magistrate, Mr. Tapiwa Banda.
Jairos was initially sentenced to 24 months in prison. However, six months were suspended on condition of good behavior, while the remaining 18 months were converted to community service.
The complainants in the case are Sisodwa Zanani, the safety, health, environmental, and quality executive at NBSZ, and Radhi Chikwereti, the organisation’s finance executive.
Prosecutor Ms. Audrah Chitoro told the court that on September 12 last year, Jairos forged Zanani’s signature on a Memorandum of Understanding.
The document falsely indicated that Zanani had agreed to guarantee Jairos’ loan of US$3,000 from Edgars Club Plus.
The loan was to be repaid in 12 monthly installments.
However, Jairos only paid once and defaulted on the agreement.
The fraud came to light on February 5 this year when Edgars contacted Zanani to follow up on the payment.
At this point, Zanani discovered that her signature had been forged on the loan documents.
It emerged that Jairos had also forged Chikwereti’s signature to obtain another loan under the same scheme.
Jairos repeated the fraudulent act twice, targeting both complainants.
Magistrate Banda noted the gravity of the offence but considered Jairos’ guilty plea to convert his imprisonment to community service. The Herald
