The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has decided to impose a 3 to 5-year ban on establishing new medical and dental colleges and increasing student seats due to a severe faculty shortage.
This decision, approved in a recent PMDC Council meeting, highlights concerns over the availability of qualified faculty, essential for maintaining educational standards. Data reveals that 187 colleges require 26,018 faculty members, but only 22,146 are available, impacting education quality, clinical training, and research.
PMDC has urged the National Health Services to intervene, ensuring regulatory compliance and strengthening Pakistan’s medical education system. A formal letter has been sent by the PMDC Registrar addressing this critical issue.
