West Bengal Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya presented a โน3.89 lakh crore budget for FY26. Key highlights from the budget:
โค GSDP growth rate of Bengal stands at 6.8% in 2024-25, outpacing the national average of 6.37%.
โค Industrial sector grew by 7.3%, outpacing the national average of 6.20%.
โค Services sector grew by 7.8%, outpacing the national average of 7.20%.
โค Agriculture and allied sectors grew by 4.2%, outpacing the national average of 3.8%.
โค Unemployment rate in Bengal stood at 4.14%, lower than the national average of 7.93%.
โค Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees increased by 4%.
โค โน38,762 crore allocated to the Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Department.
โค โน1,500 crore allocated for the expansion and improvement of road infrastructure.
โค โน21,355 crore allocated to the health sector.
โค โน41,153 crore allocated for school education while โน6,593 crore allocated for higher education.
