There has been a noticeable rise in the consumption of pork liver among Zimbabweans, particularly in kebabs and with other offals (gango). This trend is not coincidental, as pork liver is significantly cheaper—Colcom sells it for around US$1 per kg, compared to beef liver at about US$6 per kg and chicken liver at approximately US$3.60 per kg. Like other types of liver, pork liver is rich in various nutrients. However, health professionals warn of increased risks of diseases such as Hepatitis E, multiple sclerosis, and liver cancer, especially if the liver is undercooked.
